Job Description


The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on Radio Frequency (RF) and Optical-Mechanical product design, producibility, and mission assurance. It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Space and Airborne Systems to introduce reliable new products faster, better, and more economically.

The Fort Wayne Engineering Support Team is seeking an ECAD Designer to support multiple programs. The candidate performs duties of Electrical Computer Assisted Design (ECAD), responsible for creation of complex CAD models and Drawings. The candidate will work closely with a lead Electrical Engineer (EE), Mechanical Engineer (ME) and other staff members to develop and document solutions to complex requirements. The position will require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation and the ability to work in a team environment to develop components or sections of electronic systems.

The candidate will perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the engineering and manufacturing organizations by using ECAD systems and enterprise data management tools to prepare mechanical design layouts, detail and assembly drawings and related documentation in conformance to appropriate program and/or military specifications.



Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional industry experience
  • Proficient with Electrical CAD tools design tools
  • Functional understanding of PTC Windchill or other Product Data Management (PDM) tools particularly for CAD files
  • A team player with a high level of initiative and ability to work in an environment of rapidly changing priorities
  • Ability to lead an ECAD design activity including leading a team to achieve desired results
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Ability to build relationships with internal customers, understanding their program needs and challenges, and effectively communicating an approach to solving their problems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools
  • Work with Export / Import personnel to ensure requirements are met for Engineering documentation
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance within 1st year of employment

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with ECAD tools (Mentor Xpedition, DxDesigner, Zuken, VALOR, BluePrint)
  • RF product design and electronic packaging experience
  • Knowledge of materials and processes used in manufacture of electronic printed circuit boards (PCB) and circuit card assemblies (CCA)
  • Experience creating documentation needed to support the design, manufacturing and production of PCBs and CCAs
  • Experience leading ECAD design activities including leading teams to achieve desired results
  • Working knowledge of PCB & CCA manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Knowledge of IPC Standards and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • IPC Certified Interconnect Designer
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance
Required Education (including Major):
  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electronic Drafting or equivalent
Desired Education:
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent Bachelors of Science degree
