Job Description

Position Overview:
Automation & System Integration (ASI) department is seeking a Principal Automation Mechanical Engineer to support the development, implementation, and support of Automated Assembly and Test Equipment in its Factories. This position may require occasional travel (~10%) to support off site factories, or vendor locations.


Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for designing the required mechanisms, selecting and integrating a broad spectrum of components and subsystems including: robotics, servo axes, linear actuators, pneumatics, fluid dispensing systems, vibratory feeders, lasers, vision, sensors, and conveyors
  • Works on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required to resolve problems and make recommendations
  • Performs engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs
  • Analyzes engineering drawings, and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness etc. in the development of equipment, processes and products

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Applied knowledge of system automation design
  • GD&T design and analysis
  • Ability to design for manufacturability


Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 8 years of related experience or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 6 years of related experience
  • Experience in System Mechanical Design
  • Experience with solid modeling
  • Experience designing detail machined and fabricated parts
  • Eligible to obtain a DOD secret clearance

Desired Skills:
  • Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Ergonomics and OHSA design experience
  • Safety system design experience including guarding
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic design experience
  • Robot and end of arm tooling design experience including simulations
  • Vision system application design experience
