An Engineering Technical Fellow within the System Design & Performance Directorate has responsibility for advancing the state of the art and implementing results on programs within any of the following product lines: Strategic and Naval Systems, Air Warfare and Land Combat Systems, and Advanced Missile Systems.

Job Description:
Software System Architect Technical Fellow will apply technical expertise in complex software development and integration with real-time, distributed processing subsystems and other peripheral system components, establishing solid architectural baselines for software and configurable logic design and hardware/software interactions.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Architect technically sound approaches and strategies for the entire product lifecycle
  • Develop road maps for product lines, technologies, research and development activities, and capital strategy
  • Drive customer affordability by mitigating program cost and schedule execution risks
  • Provide technical oversight in the development, integration and qualification of system solutions
  • Define an integrated strategy to support architecture and design of integrated real-time embedded software and configurable logic applications.
  • Lead failure investigations in resolution of issues surrounding implementation of complex embedded software and configurable logic applications.
  • Interface with internal Raytheon and external Government personnel and programs, including participating in program and Business Unit reviews
  • Develop apprentices to extend the knowledge of software and configurable logic architecture and solutions to meet the needs across programs and product lines
  • Provide guidance, coaching / mentoring and training to other employees across the business within area of expertise.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelors of Science in engineering, math, physics or other engineering discipline
  • Twelve (12) years of engineering experience designing and architecting software and configurable logic on complex systems (such as multicore, multiprocessor, and distributed processor/FPGA systems)
  • Experience developing in C / C++ and other object oriented languages
  • Past work history using at least two of the top software development methodologies (Waterfall, rapid application, agile, Scrum, and DevOps, etc.)
  • Experience with embedded system architecture, design, and implementation
  • Experience leading trade studies and multi-discipline engineering teams
  • Patents, papers, and/or publications within the last ten years in related technical field
  • Active Department of Defense Secret Clearance

Desired Education, Skills and Experience:
  • Masters or Ph.D. in aforementioned degrees
  • Extensive experience throughout the software and system architecture lifecycle—Architectural analysis, synthesis, evaluation, evolution using a variety of frameworks
  • Expert in architectural patterns and styles (monolithic, peer-to-peer, REST, space-based, data-centric, client-server, reactive, etc.)
  • Experience with object-oriented software development
  • Experience using software source configuration control tools and/or automated build environments
  • Experience developing, testing, integrating, and verifying real-time embedded software
  • Experience using embedded RTOSs (e.g. VxWorks, Integrity)
  • Experience with software/hardware/firmware architecture, integration, and verification
  • Experience working in a DoD embedded software environment
  • Prior active participation in a mentorship or coaching program involving several junior or mid-level engineers
  • Active Department of Defense top secret clearance
