Job Description

BS in Mechanical Engineering or MS in Mechanical EngineeringThe SAS Advanced Manufacturing, Modernization, and Technology (AMMT) team is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative team member to be an experienced Mechanical Engineer supporting Automation across SAS.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for critical mechanical analysis, GD&T analysis and modeling, troubleshooting, and oversight/review of automation designs. In addition, the mechanical engineer will act as a mechanical subject matter expert (SME) during new and existing machine development, debug, and deployment. The ideal candidate will have Project Management experience. The position will be networked across SAS factories, which includes locations in El Segundo (CA), McKinney (TX), Forest (MS), Goleta (CA), and Largo (FL), in addition to operations and automation engineers from other Raytheon business units. The position will be located in Forest, MS. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical design, mechanisms, and product development, with a strong emphasis in mechanical troubleshooting and design review.

Required Skills:
  • Strong Mechanical skills in Static and Dynamic designs
  • Strong Mechanical Analysis skills
  • Strong GD&T understanding and analysis (FEA) skills
  • Strong experience in standard drawing creation/evaluation
  • Familiarity with Material selection, preferably around Corrosion prevention and ESD controls
  • Experienced user of CAD Modeling software
  • 10+ years of Professional Engineering experience in a Manufacturing or Design environment
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance within 1 year of the start date
  • U.S Citizenship is required.

Education:
  • BS in Engineering, Mechanical and or (for example, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering)
  • MS in engineering (for example, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering)

Desired Skills:
  • Experienced user of Mechanical Analysis Software
  • ASME Y14.100 understanding for drawing creation
  • Strong GD&T experience Per ASME Y14.5 and analysis (FEA) skills
  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings and specifications, including understanding of GD&T
  • Skilled user of Creo, Ansys, Solid Works and Windchill
  • Experience with designing mechanisms and pneumatics
  • Understanding of root cause, corrective action troubleshooting process for mechanisms and pneumatics
  • Familiarity with process specs, such as AWS D1.1 for certified welding
  • Experience in project management, including MS Project schedule development, and financial measures/metrics.
  • Team leadership experience including demonstrated mentoring experience
  • Ability to work independently and pro-actively
  • Experience in automation development and deployment
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact positively and collaboratively with others at all levels of the organization
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70 and NFPA 79 standards and practices
  • Experience with precision mechanisms
  • Experience with fabrication, assembly, fixture design and/or advanced engineering lab test setups
  • Understanding of Lean principles and terminology
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 / Smart Factory concepts, Digital Manufacturing Simulation
  • Understanding of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), ISA (International Society of Automation) 95 architectures.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, MTConnect, and/or Transactional Automation (use of API, XML)
  • Existing DoD Secret clearance or higher, and/or ability to obtain SSBI
  • Required Education:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or MS in Mechanical Engineering
