Job Description

Raytheon Vision Systems' (RVS) is an industry innovator in discriminating focal plane array based sensor solutions. RVS has been a technology development and manufacturing leader for over 60 years. RVS' product line includes Visible and Infrared focal plane arrays, sensor electronics including signal processing for satellite applications.

The RVS Engineering organization currently has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineering Manager. This department provides a wide range of general systems engineering work products in support of RVS’s high technology Electro Optics and electronics portfolio. The activities of the Senior Systems Engineering department manager include:
  • Supervising a team of up to 60 systems engineers in a variety of development, pre-production, production and sustainment programs for the Emerging Technology, Tactical Products, and Space Products portfolio.
  • Leading system engineering group efforts and particularly the approach and processes related to the program operations concept, architecture, design, development, integration up to and including flight test of EO systems
  • Reporting on group activities to RVS Engineering leadership, and act as the conduit for information flow to the Systems Engineering team.
  • Engaging Program Management on programs to ensure systems engineering discipline, and successful program execution within cost, schedule and technical milestones
  • Frequently collaborating with multiple Engineering functions (ME, EE, ROIC, SEIT) and the program offices
  • EO Systems Requirements derivation and decomposition
  • EO Systems “cradle to grave” including: modeling, architecture/concept/prototype development, production readiness, production oversight, sustainment and repair oversight.
  • Serves as the primary liaison to factory personnel
  • Proposal and white paper generation and support
  • Technical presentations with internal and external customers
  • Engaging regularly with program IPTLs in producing EACs and facilitating approvals
  • Developing and maintaining the technical roadmaps for their capabilities and for technical leadership of the section.

The Systems Engineering Department manager and team are key technical contributors to the programs supported by the department. This is a highly visible and key role in the RVS Engineering organization. In addition, the department manager is responsible for leading 3 managers and approximately 60 engineers. These activities include career development and performance evaluations of their people, resource allocation, being the champion of engineering best practices, actively engaging with programs to facilitate execution and functional development of proposals. This role ensures two-way communications for IC level department members; serves as a day-to-day liaison to the programs ensuring program success along technical, cost and schedule parameters, as well as overseeing section member job assignments, performance, and recognition.

In addition, this role will team with other Department Managers in the execution of RVS/SAS Engineering goals, and will be expected to actively participate in RVS, customer, and Raytheon leadership meetings as required. The Senior Systems Engineer Manager, like their department members, should have demonstrable expertise in Electro-Optical systems engineering as well as leadership experience.

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in systems engineering development
  • In depth experience with EO/IR systems design and architecture work products, technologies, and programs
  • Experience with process improvement e.g. CMMI and Six-Sigma
  • Experience building strong relationships and effectively partnering with internal resources; customer focused
  • Prior engineering leadership experience
  • Familiarity with EVMS
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance; Active Secret is preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Required Education:
BS degree in Math, Science, Engineering or related STEM discipline
Advanced degree desired.
