Job Description:

IIS Hardware & Infrastructure Engineering's Electrical & Mechanical Design Department leads the mechanical and electrical hardware design, development and production of DoD, international military and COTS Air Traffic Control Systems.

The Air Traffic Management Mechanical Design Section, located in Marlborough, MA currently has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support/lead the development of various design tasks for established programs and IRADs (Independent Research and Development). The Principal Mechanical Engineer will be involved in activities such as design development and oversight, lead/participate in design reviews (internal as well as external – with customer), ensure that proper design guidelines are followed and program requirements are met, prototype development and evaluation, and proper design documentation. As one of the Sr. Mechanical Engineers in the section you will be involved in mentoring more junior engineers working with you on various development tasks, as well as working directly with internal and external customers as required.

US Citizenship is required due to the candidate requiring a current US Security Clearance.

Requirements:
  • 8+ years of years engineering design experience with a focus on hardware development, design, documentation and fabrication of DoD and/or FAA programs
  • Knowledgeable in design analysis (thermal, structural, etc.) i.e. CCAs, electronic packaging, equipment racks, and mobile systems
  • Must have experience in designing products, starting with requirements through the release of a design
  • Ability to apply high level principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field and general knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing – knowledge of machining practices, sheet metal fabrication, and welding
  • Experience with environmental testing (shock, vibe, thermal)
  • Excellent Interpersonal and Multi-tasking Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficient in Creo and PDM
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
  • Ability to make sound engineering decisions and develop the documentation to support these decisions.
  • Experience on Failure Investigation Teams with FRACAS / FRB / FR / A / CA
  • Task management or other lead role experience for development efforts (cost, schedule, earned value management).

Desired Qualifications:
  • Proficient in Flotherm and ANSYS analysis tools
  • Ability and willingness to travel when required
  • Experience with transition to production
  • Experience with RF and electro-mechanical program manufacturing operations and processes
  • Experience in design assembly and integration of mechanical, RF electronic systems
  • Working knowledge of Thermal and Structural analysis tools.
  • Working knowledge of Environmental testing equipment, procedures and qualification activities
  • Experience leading Control Account Management (CAM), Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and Earned Value Management (EVM) tasks


Required Education (including Major):

Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with Emphasis in Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years of related work experience.
