Job Description

Raytheon Applied Signal Technology (RAST), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems, currently has an opening for a System Administrator to perform in our Sunnyvale, CA office. The selected individual will primarily be a System Administrator for program environments, but will also be responsible for performing a full range of IT functions within classified and unclassified areas. This position ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software, and related procedures adhere to organizational- and security-based policies. Key duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide technical support to end-users who need assistance utilizing client level hardware and software
  • Plan, implement, and operate network services and systems, to include hardware and virtual environments
  • Setup and maintain systems including installation, configuration, and updating of hardware and software

Security Clearance: Candidate must possess an Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and be willing and able to obtain additional clearances and program access. Successful candidate will be expected to complete a Full Scope Polygraph and must maintain all clearances and program access throughout employment.

Example Responsibilities:
  • Maintains smooth operation of routed and switched network infrastructure, servers and end-user workstations.
  • Plans, evaluates, coordinates and performs installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network.
  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of voice and data networks hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.
  • Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems.
  • May design network or portion of network that include selection of hardware and software packages.
  • Duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocate mass storage space.
  • Evaluates vendor products and makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
  • Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.

Required Skills:
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Four (4) years of experience in at least one of the following areas (multiple areas preferred):
  • System Administration of Linux systems in an enterprise environment including, but not limited to:
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of SELinux
  • Creating, modifying and deleting user accounts and groups
  • Planning and performing operating system, software, and repo updates
  • Troubleshooting networking issues and editing the routing table
  • Network administration of Cisco routers and switches, including Layer 1 installation and troubleshooting
  • Windows System Administration:
  • Windows desktop administration (Windows 7 or newer)
  • Windows Server administration (Windows Server 2012 or newer) to include infrastructure services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc.
  • Experience researching compliance issues, and formulating recommendations to management
  • Experience working in and supporting classified areas, to include:
  • Understanding Information Assurance requirements
  • Performing security audits on networked and standalone systems
  • Experience planning and managing small to medium projects impacting the department
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds in support of hardware installations
  • CompTIA Security+, or equivalent DoD 8570 certification for IAT Level II, within 6 months of hire
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Desired Skills:
  • Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance with Full-Scope Polygraph
  • Demonstrated experience with time management in order to meet critical deadlines
  • Experience in installation, configuration and administration of network storage using NetApp products
  • Experience in all facets of administering Cisco Unified Communications manager (CUCM), including planning and performing patches and upgrades
  • Installation, configuration and administration of virtualized environments with hypervisors such as VMWare and KVM
  • Demonstrated skill in reading, writing, modifying, and executing simple scripts on Windows and Linux systems
  • Experience working in and supporting classified areas, to include:
  • Understanding Information Assurance requirements
  • Performing security audits on networked and standalone systems
  • Experience with installation, configuration and troubleshooting a variety of network and security management tools including, but not limited to:
  • Centrify
  • Lumension
  • Puppet
  • Solarwinds
  • Splunk
  • Tenable Nessus
  • Symantec NetBackup
  • Active IT-based certifications including:
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Windows Server 2012 or newer
  • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA),
  • VMWare certifications such as VMWare Certified Professional (VCP) Version 6 or newer
  • Independent, self-motivated, and willing/able to learn through on-the-job training and documentation
  • Able to work within a team and foster teamwork and trust from both external and internal customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

Required Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience
