Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) is the provider of AESA Radar Systems which provide the war fighter with the most accurate and timely information available for the network-centric battlefield. The Systems Engineering Integration and Test Center (SEIT) organization is seeking committed engineering leaders who are passionate about creating innovative and cost-effective solutions for the warfighter.

We are seeking a Flight Test Engineer (FTE) for the Raytheon Multi-program Testbed (RMT) Program. The RMT is a highly modified Boeing-727 flight testbed aircraft supporting a wide array of Raytheon SAS Mission Areas for Radar, LADAR, EW, Gen 5, and MFEOIR programs. This position requires full-time duties at Ontario, CA with occasional work in El Segundo, CA and other flight test sites. This is a G09 position, but will consider a G10 salary grade for the right candidate.

The RMT FTE’s primary role is to execute system integration and modification operations including flight test engineering, mission planning, and flight test planning. The RMT FTE is tasked with configuration design, documentation, installation, and the removal of flight test systems onboard the RMT aircraft. The FTE also flies aboard the RMT as a Console Operator to provide support systems and technical support before, during, and after dedicated flight test missions. The RMT FTE also operates mission systems and test equipment based on specific mission requirements. The position will also support Test and Mission Planning teams to meet internal and external Customer flight test requirements. These duties include test planning, technical exchange meetings in preparation for flight test, and mission planning team to build tailored test profiles and procedures. The RMT FTE is responsible for the successful integration and testing of system payload equipment to ensure operational capability and availability of the RMT platform to meet test requirements. This includes development and updates to RMT technical drawings, lab integration support with hardware and software teams, wire configuration lists, and supporting documentation. Duties also responsible daily coordination, planning, scheduling, design, design reviews, testbed integration, test procedures, and status reporting for flight test projects. Once training is complete the RMT FTE is expected to perform with minimal supervision and participate in mission crew training, flight and ground safety plans, aircraft system maintenance operations, assist RMT trade studies, and interface with facilities and maintenance teams.

Required Skills:
  • 6 years’ experience in engineering design and development
  • Knowledgeable in systems engineering, IV&V engineering, and work products
  • Experience in system-level IV&V of hardware and software products
  • Experience with test equipment and hardware and software integration and test
  • Strong technical background to support troubleshooting aircraft electrical, cooling and radar systems hardware
  • Perform work in fast paced, high demand environment to meet flight test mission requirements
  • Demonstrate proficient written and verbal skills for preparation and presentation of technical material to internal and external customers, at program technical reviews, and provide work product progress reports
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications (i.e. - Word, Powerpoint, Excel, MS Project) with ability to read and develop electrical - schematics and wire lists
  • Candidate must be able to work flexible 2nd shift and on occasion flexible hours (i.e3rd shift or weekends for surge work requirements)
  • Ability and aptitude to troubleshoot flight test systems, computer systems, software, and networking connectivity issues
  • Able to work in a high paced, high demand environment
  • Ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks and priorities
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities and analysis experience
  • Knowledge of general purpose test equipment in the integration and test of hardware and software products
  • US Citizen with CURRENT secret clearance and Ability to obtain SAP/SAR clearances
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

  • 4 years of flight test or avionics testing and integration experience
  • Leadership experience with engineering teams and flight test projects
  • Ability to perform data analysis, troubleshooting and failure reporting
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues between test equipment, software, and hardware
  • Knowledge and experience in computer simulations, information technology, and communications technologies
  • Strong desire to learn, take initiative and contribute in a team-oriented environment
  • Familiarity with flight testing, testing methods, and avionics testing
  • Strong communication skills with customers, end users, and analysts
  • Experience in flight test planning, mission planning, developing flight test procedures, flight test operations, and execution
  • Aviation experience with direct roles in flight test engineering and mission directing
  • Experience with government test planning, flight test, and acquisitions
  • Working knowledge of Autocad and Microsoft Visio
  • Experience with computers systems and languages (EX: MATLAB, Python, C++, Java, Linux)

Required Education:
  • BS Degree in Engineering, Math, Computer Science, or Physics

Desired Education:
  • MS in Engineering, Math, Computer Science, or Physics with emphasis in computer systems
