Job Description

Advanced Concepts and Technologies (ACT) is a focus area within Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) that is responsible for the development and implementation of new and emerging system concepts, products and strategic technologies for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), and other areas within the Department of Defense (DoD). Some of the technologies produced by ACT include automatic target-recognition systems, active electronically scanned arrays, wideband common data links, solid-state illuminator lasers, laser radar vibration sensors, and the world’s first processor whose architecture can adopt different forms depending on its application. ACT technologies have helped the warfighter locate buried landmines, discover hidden tunnels, process more sensor data, and protect ground forces from the air. The SAS Tactical Communications Systems (TCS) product line is looking for high-level software developers to help with the development of emerging ACT technologies in the area of Mission Automation.

As a Senior Application Software Engineer I, typical job functions include:
  • Participation on collaborative, cross-discipline integrated product teams, often employing agile software development techniques and tools to plan, design, develop, test, and integrate software products within a Linux and/or Windows environment.
  • Typically solve difficult problems through the understanding of a broader set of issues and drawing from prior experience.
  • May manage projects and be required to delegate work and review the work products of others.
  • May be responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees within the job area.
  • Work independently under limited supervision.
  • Responsibilities span the full lifecycle of product development, from architecture and design, through integration, test, and field support (Travel is required 5%-25%).
  • Able to work from Largo, Fl OR Fort Wayne, IN

**Required Skills:
  • 4+ years of work related experience spanning software design, implementation, testing, and system integration.
  • BS / BA from an ABET accredited university with a major in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics, or related field.
  • Software development experience with higher-level languages such as C++, Java, and C#.
  • Ability to travel for field integration support (5%-25%).
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active SECRET U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
**Desired Skills:
  • Bachelors of Science in Computer Science.
  • 4+ years of work related experience in Object Oriented Architecture, Design, and Implementation of multithreaded applications.
  • Familiarity with software development in both a Linux and Windows OS Environment.
  • Usage of Git, Bitbucket, and Jira agile configuration management and issue tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of container frameworks such as Docker and Singularity.
  • Experience with Visual Studio, VS Code, CMake, and Make development tools.
  • Ability to solve problems that typically involve the consideration of multiple issues, job areas or specialties.
  • Highly proficient with cross-discipline communication.
  • Experience with working directly with customers and suppliers.
  • Familiarity with Agile life-cycle processes including Scrum, Continuous Integration, and Test Driven Development Methodologies.
  • Some experience with leading projects or processes, including the delegation and review of work.
  • Some acquaintance with Earned-Value Management.
  • Awareness of Software Cost Estimation.
  • Some experience with providing guidance, coaching, and training to junior engineers.
