Job Description:

The Department Manager (DM) is responsible for technical leadership of department members, management of materials characterization labs and development and maintenance of technical roadmaps, product design guides for design capabilities and support of manufacturing operations. Personnel responsibilities include recruiting, retention, training coordination, performance management, career development and resource allocation, as well as coordinating program staffing, optimizing resource utilization and collecting data for monthly management reviews. The DM is responsible for reporting program status to engineering leadership. The DM partners with program and operations management personnel and functional engineers to ensure program and engineering organizational goals are achieved. The DM must be a strong advocate for process improvement, diversity in the work force and establishing high professional standards. Effective communication, leadership and decision making skills are imperative.

The DM provides leadership to team members who solve complex technical issues and provide innovative solutions. Tasks include selecting and developing manufacturing process procedures, tools and assembly equipment, performing material evaluations, authoring material specifications, conducting supplier surveys, resolving material issues and conducting process qualifications for mature and developing products. The DM pursues long-range goals and objectives to determine and implement courses of action.

Responsibilities include serving as a Subject Matter Expert on peer reviews that support the IPDS gate process, manufacturing process validations, process documents and assembly instructions, in addition to serving in a leadership role and interface between Engineering and El Segundo Operations.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in assembly, materials and processes
  • Demonstrated successful team leadership
  • Must be an advocate for continuous process improvement
  • Must be Raytheon Six Sigma Specialist or equivalent
  • Eligible to obtain a Secret security clearance

Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of DOE and SPC
  • Experience developing bids, proposals and EACs
  • EVMS Certification
  • Ability to obtain program clearances
  • Knowledge of department products, technologies and manufacturing processes
  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA)
