The Whole Life Systems Engineering (WLSE) Directorate is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable, under configuration control and delivered on time. WLSE consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers. WLSE disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. WLSE’s charter is focused in two main areas; product support and technical data support. In the product support area, the Departments include Reliability Engineering, System Safety, Mission Support and Lifecycle Engineering. On the technical data side, the Departments are Hardware Configuration Management and Integrated Design Check (CM/IDC), Software Configuration Management (SWCM), and Data Management, Engineering Support and Execution (DEX)

Job Description:
The Field Engineer performs depot level inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair in support of the Javelin missile Command Launch Unit (CLU) and training devices (TD,) at the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) and Javelin Maintenance Support Center (JMSC) located in Los Angeles, CA.

  • Performs all aspects of troubleshooting and repair to various types of circuit cards, cable harnesses, electronic, and electro-optical assemblies.
  • Candidate will analyze equipment failures to determine root cause and recommend corrective action.
  • Must be able to read and work with schematics, engineering drawings, written, and oral work instructions.
  • Position requires candidate to be proficient with the use of standard electronic assembly and test tools.
  • Must be able to incorporate hardware and software modifications on tactical, training, and test and support equipment resulting from changes in engineering, design and obsolescence.
  • Assist in the development of new test procedures and test equipment, while providing input effecting design changes to improve process efficiency or reduce cost.
  • Work in a positive team environment with JMSC Technical and Engineering personnel.
  • Must have the ability to perform effectively in a team environment and as an individual contributor.
  • The candidate may be required to participate in sporadic travel requirements in support of program commitments such as providing CLU maintenance training to customer personnel and providing assistance with gunner live fire training.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Analyze equipment failures to determine root cause and recommend corrective action
  • Ability to develop new test procedures and test equipment and provide input effecting design changes to improve process efficiency or reduce cost
  • Experience with all aspects of electronics troubleshooting and repair
  • Must be able to read and work schematics, blueprints, written and oral rework instructions
  • Proficient with the use of standard electronic assembly, test tools, and materials
  • Proficient in the use of standard electronic test equipment, such as oscilloscopes and DVM
  • Candidate must be available to support some travel
Desired Skills, Education, and Experience:
  • Current DoD clearance
  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office suite.
  • Solder certified
  • Cable / Harness Certified or be eligible to receive certification.
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in a team environment

The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement.
