Job Description

Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) currently has an opening for a Section Manager in the Software Engineering Center (SWEC).

As a Software Engineering Section Manager, the applicant will perform functional management tasks and be actively engaged in the technical and/or programmatic aspects of Electronic Warfare Programs in SAS. Some of the other responsibilities include:
  • Primary responsibilities are as Section Leader, although a large portion of the Manager’s contribution will be as a software engineering professional assisting with projects or special assignments.
  • Engineering leadership. Manage engineering execution cost, schedule and technical performance, provide technical interface to customer, select and manage engineering performance metrics, manage assigned staff and manage engineering risks for the project.
  • Create partnerships to ensure effective software product development. Institute improvement processes and efficiencies to bring this engineering department to a new level of performance.
  • Provide leadership and application of domain process and company policies, manage department metrics and implement initiatives for performance improvement. Manage assets and budgets along with department overhead budget, review and approve the engineering department’s bid and proposal estimates.
  • Manage personnel. Appropriately size staff and balance department skills, deploy staff to projects and set priority, ensure excellent project execution, administer employee performance and career development and training.

Required Skills:
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in software development or equivalent experience
  • Technical leadership experience to a small team of engineers
  • Experience providing career development for team members
  • Experience contributing technical work products throughout the entire software life cycle
  • Experience evaluating performance of section members and ensure completion of required and suggested training
  • Experience working independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • C/C++ Programming, embedded software development experience
  • Experience planning and managing cost and schedule for software projects
  • ***Position requires US Citizenship as candidate will be required to have current Secret Clearance***

Desired Skills:
  • Earned Value certified
  • Agile Scrum Certified
  • Previous hands-on experience in department / line management of a software engineering function
  • Understanding of lateral engineering functions; systems, hardware, test and quality

Required Education:
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Science, Engineering or Mathematics.
