Job Description:
The Systems Test Directorate vision is to be a world-class leader in driving Test Affordability through the systematic application of Systems Engineering principles while ensuring an Operationally Relevant Product is delivered to the War Fighter.

The Advanced Test Systems Engineering Center (ATSEC), within the Systems Test Directorate, is comprised of five departments and an engineering population of approximately 450+ employees, and produces over $300M+/year of delivered products. The ATSEC organization has the responsibility to grow and sustain the Systems Engineering competencies throughout all test activities, and to make test more affordable, credible, agile, and robust.

Within ATSEC, the Advanced Test Operations & Environments (ATO&E) Department includes the Environmental Test (ET) organization. ET is an engineering organization that supports all missile programs across Raytheon Missile Systems. The ET organization provides testing capability for every phase of the product life cycle from prototype to production. Environmental testing includes mechanical shock, electrodynamic vibration, salt fog, climatic environments such as temperature, humidity, and altitude, high temperature quartz lamp testing, structural testing, and custom instrumentation installations and data acquisition support.

The Technical Support Engineer is responsible for executing a variety of environmental tests while collaborating in an integrated product (IP) team environment with fellow ET Support Engineers, ET Test Engineers, and internal engineering customers. The Technical Support Engineer will work within the IP team to develop the best methods for implementing tests to meet customer requirements and is responsible for all aspects of the test including test design and setup, equipment control and monitoring, and data collection. The Technical Support Engineer is responsible for performing troubleshooting and adjustment of both the equipment and test setup when technical issues arise. The Technical Support Engineer will report to the Environmental Test Operations Manager within the Systems Test Directorate. The candidate will work in a Multi-Program Closed Area.


  • Develop and execute instrumentation, signal conditioning and data acquisition plans for testing engineering hardware on mechanical shock and electrodynamic vibration test systems as well as for climatic environmental chambers in support of testing for temperature, humidity, altitude and Highly Accelerated Life Tests (HALT)
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation equipment, data acquisition systems, and test setups to identify and remedy issues with correct operation
  • Implement engineering best practices to ensure tests are being run correctly and the gathered data is accurate
  • Safeguarding of classified/proprietary material, hardware and documentation

Required Skills:
  • Able to design test plans and test systems to develop and improve products
  • Experience utilizing, setting up, and troubleshooting signal conditioners and data acquisition systems to investigate design factors of product hardware under test for, interchangeability, replicability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements
  • Familiar with checking layouts, drawings, and test plans for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning for testing
  • Proficient with using computer aided design equipment and software such as Dewetron, DeweSoft, LabView, Agilent/Keysight Benchlink, Somat, or equivalent to acquire sensor data
  • Ability to identify test design errors and deficiencies and recommend improvements of test design layout to responsible engineer
  • Capable of overseeing large test setups or high channel count instrumentation and data acquisition projects
  • Experience overseeing or training others in the field of test instrumentation and data acquisition
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office tools including Word and Excel
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance

Desired Skills:
  • Hands on mechanical, electrical, and computer skills
  • Experience working with vibration test systems
  • Experience working with vibration control and data acquisition systems and software such as UD APEX, Vibration Research, LMS, Crystal Instruments, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of how to program PID control systems
  • Technical writing experience

The ideal candidate is a motivated hands-on, self-starter who cheerfully accepts work assignments and diligently drives to complete them. They are creative and innovative, possessing coordination, analytical, problem-solving, and extreme attention to detail skills.

Required Education:
A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and less than 2 years prior experience.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement. Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens.
