Job Description

The SAS Tactical Communication Systems Hardware Department is currently seeking a motivated ECAD Engineer. This position will primarily support design, development, and production focused around communication equipment and will be located in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

The SAS Aberdeen Hardware Center is seeking a PCB designer to support multiple programs. In this position, you will perform circuit board layouts using CAD software to meet certain performance and program requirements. The primary responsibilities of this position will include:

• Interpreting schematic diagrams and utilizing preliminary sketches, diagrams, and other engineering information to generate PCB designs for both RF and digital systems.
• Executing the detail design for printed circuit boards and completion of documentation to IPC and department standards using PCB design CAD tool.
• Perform independent reviews of the design using provided software tools.
• Coordinating with other disciplines affected by design development.
• Self-check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications
• Working with the Producibility Engineer to facilitate design reviews as they relate to PCB layout and design for manufacturability.
• Write and incorporating Engineering Change Notices on PCB layouts and drawings.

Required Skills:

• Experience laying out printed circuit boards using ECAD software
• Understanding of Printed Circuit fabrication
• Must be familiar with applicable industry (IPC) design and end product performance standards for circuit card assemblies and printed circuit boards including IPC-6012, IPC-2221, J-STD-001, IPC-7351
• Ability to communicate technical knowledge and document descriptions of technical solutions for CCA and PCB technology products
• Ability to work in multiple discipline integrated product development team environments to successfully execute tasks and deliver high quality work products
• The position requires multi-tasking skills to support several programs concurrently
• Must be self-motivated and strong desire to learn and contribute in a teaming environment
• Proficient with Microsoft Office tools i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio
• Must be a US Citizen and have ability to obtain a DOD Security Clearance

Desired Skills:

• Familiarity with design tools for printed circuit board and circuit card assembly technologies (Mentor Boardstation, Mentor xDM, Mentor Expedition, Blueprint, VALOR NPI, etc.)
• Familiarity with PCB/CCA technology Manufacturing Design Rules and Guidelines (MDRGs)
• Prior experience designing, and / or supporting aerospace/defense related products
• Familiar with component selection for military and aerospace environments
• IPC CID or CID+ certification

Required Education:

Associate degree in electronic drafting or electrical engineering technology (or equivalent) with 6 years' experience or High School Diploma with 8+ years of experience
