If your answers are yes, we are looking for you to join our team at Raytheon Missile Systems (RMS) in Tucson, AZ! We are the System Design & Performance (SDP) Directorate, part of RMS Engineering, and we are seeking a Senior Leader to assume the important role of Director of the SDP organization.

The SDP Directorate is organized into four Centers, responsible for systems engineering, signal processing, algorithm development, guidance, navigation and control, system modeling and simulation, and system security for Raytheon Missile Systems’ broad portfolio of projects, programs, and products. The directorate has employees located in Tucson AZ, McKinney TX, Huntsville AL, Louisville, KY, Dulles VA, Sacramento, CA, and Albuquerque, NM.

Reporting to the RMS Vice President of Engineering, the Systems Design and Performance Engineering Director will be responsible for the cost, schedule, quality and technical performance of the Systems Engineering effort for all RMS programs and pursuits. They will also lead and enable the deployment of Corporate and RMS Engineering initiatives to improve Engineering at RMS.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor a 2200+ person Systems Engineering organization including an Organization Staff of 9
  • Coordinate with senior program and product line leadership to resolve complex, business-critical issues that could impede our ability to meet customer deliverables
  • Drive talent acquisition, technical vision, employee development, and organizational effectiveness through subordinate leaders and direct interaction
  • Support new business capture by driving early Engineering engagement and reviewing bids for any new contracts, Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Rough Order Of Magnitudes (ROMs) and Non-Binding Budgetary Estimates (NBBEs) assuring that the solution being proposed is technically viable and executable
  • Provide leadership to the Directors of the SDP Centers who interface with all RMS programs in providing technical staff and solutions
  • Manage personnel performance as you define responsibilities, participate in talent acquisition, plan compensation for new hires and existing staff, motivate employees, offer challenging developmental opportunities, reward employee efforts appropriately, demonstrate effective problem solving, and provide continuous improvement of our people, processes, tools and products
  • Conduct succession planning, organizational health and vitality assessment, career coaching, performance development, mentoring, goal establishment and alignment, management of remote employees, and champion respect, diversity and ethics
  • Ensure the organization is maintaining and developing technical expertise and roadmaps for the advancement of Systems Architecture and Design, Signal Processing, Guidance/Navigation/Control, Modeling and Simulation, and Cyber Security
  • Participation in Color team reviews, Gate reviews and independent assessments
  • Participate as a member of the RMS Engineering Leadership Team to develop, deploy and oversee Corporate and RMS Engineering initiatives
  • Conduct workforce planning and supply / develop skilled Engineers to enable execution success and new business growth
  • Manage organizational overhead expenses including employee training, travel, performance assessment, projects, and morale events

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Physics, Math or other relevant technical discipline
  • Sixteen (16) years of experience in Aerospace & Defense Systems Engineering
  • Five (5) years of experience as technical leader of a large (300+) multi-disciplined Engineering organization comprised of multiple geographic locations
  • Two (2) years as a program director or program chief engineer for a large or strategic program
  • Past work history training and mentoring the organization’s staff
  • Experience working on proposals including preparation of metric / fact based cost estimates, delivery schedules, and technical solutions to meet the price to win
  • Experience as a Cost Account Manager (CAM)
  • Familiarity with SE processes and enablers
  • Knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, tools and techniques
  • Experience with Agile development and DevOps methodology
  • Recent work experience utilizing the technologies, methodologies, processes and tools used in the Systems Engineering industry with successful program deployment
  • Existing DoD Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance

Desired Education, Skills and Experience:
  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Engineering, Science, Physics, Math or other relevant technical discipline
  • Strong Systems thinker with experience performing a Systems Engineering role
  • Demonstrated ability to lead / manage a large engineering organization (2200+)
  • Experience working on International programs
  • Influential communication skills including effective written, verbal and listening skills communicating at all levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with peers, programs, senior RTN leadership, and customers in a team environment
  • Experience leading large programs
  • Experience working in multiple RTN businesses
  • Experience working on a program using a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Experience dealing with Information Assurance and Cyber Security requirements
  • Existing TS/SCI security clearance.
