Job Description

Position Overview:
Raytheon Missile Systems’ (RMS) Manufacturing and Test Engineering (MTE) directorate is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Department Manager who is passionate about developing top technical talent and applying engineering practices across the manufacturing life cycle to deliver world-class solutions to our internal and external customers.

Engineers within the Manufacturing Engineering Department are manufacturing domain experts across the product life cycle, they apply a variety of engineering and analytic problem solving skills in order to implement, maintain and improve manufacturing processes, they utilize lean principles to develop and optimize the manufacturing system, they provide materials analysis and selection criteria, they provide equipment and processing support, and they leverage knowledge and technical skills to influence business decisions and results from new designs to recurring production.

  • Lead a multi-discipline engineering department of approximately 15 section managers and 300 engineers (Manufacturing Engineers, Project Engineers, Industrial Engineers, & Process Engineers) who support factories and programs in Tucson (AZ), Farmington and Albuquerque (NM), Huntsville (AL), Camden (AR), and Louisville (KY).
  • Responsible for setting strategies and goals that align with Operations and Raytheon, including making a positive impact on factory and program performance.
  • Lead strategic initiatives and collaborate with other RMS functions to achieve company goals and objectives.
  • Key leadership position within the MTE directorate and Operations organization and will have frequent impactful interactions with Strategic Make-Centers (SMCs) and program offices.
  • Responsible for staffing to adequately support factory and program requirements. This includes participation in recruiting and hiring events, maintaining job requisitions, and balancing staffing requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proven technical acumen in the manufacture and integration of complex product technologies and systems.
  • Demonstrate executive presence, excellent written, verbal, and oral communication skills, solid judgment, reasoning, and decision making abilities
  • Expert knowledge of manufacturing engineering tools and processes across the product life cycle.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Position Requirement:
  • Twelve (12) years of related experience including five (5) years of recent management experience leading a moderate size organization consisting of engineers and/or manufacturing support personnel
  • Technical/engineering experience with emphasis on the manufacturing environment
  • Technical leadership in manufacturing of highly integrated systems and/or technologies from industry supply base through end-item deliveries
  • Experience advocating for the application of rigorous engineering principles across the entire product life cycle
  • Experience mentoring and providing career development directions to engineers at all levels
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Desired Skills:
  • Twelve (12) years professional related work experience with systems design and manufacturing of highly integrated missile or aerospace products and/or technologies
  • Twelve (12) years of experience with development, qualification, manufacturing, depot/repair, and/or operational testing
  • Knowledge of the PRISM shop floor system and supporting manufacturing data analysis tools.
  • Experience with cross functional acumen in Supply Chain, Quality, and Engineering
  • Experience in financial planning and budgeting skills (overhead, cost controls).
  • Demonstrated experience in effective talent development.
  • Knowledge of program management tools such as earned value, basis of estimate development, and project planning.
  • Knowledge in risk identification and assessment.
  • Understanding of broader policies and organizations that shape manufacturing policies within the aerospace industry and Department of Defense contractors.
  • Previous demonstrated leadership experiences in both Engineering and Operations organizations is highly desirable; ability to effectively balance between technical design maturity and manufacturing capability.
  • Experience with proposal preparation
  • Advanced Degree (MS or PhD) in related technical discipline
  • Active DOD secret security clearance.
Required Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
