Mission Area Process and Execution Lead (MAPEL)


Job Description
The Mission Area (MA) Process and Execution Lead (PEL) reports to the IIS Process and Execution Lead (PEL) in the IIS Engineering Process, Execution & Configuration Management directorate. MAPELs support all pursuits and executing programs in the Mission Area.

The MAPEL proactively drives improvement in the business through improving program execution in the Mission Area. MAPELs help pursuits and programs as needed. Detailed responsibilities include:
  • Review and analyze program level metrics to check for data integrity issues, assess trends and address any leading indicators that may have a potential future impact to program execution
  • Help pursuit teams define applicable metrics based on their execution method
  • Drive change in a matrixed engineering environment across multiple sites, balancing support of leadership in Engineering and the Mission Area
  • Support to programs across all process areas and metrics topics through direct assistance and mentoring for all IIS portfolio programs
  • Work with engineering discipline PELs to support monitoring and adherence to tailored processes within the discipline
  • Periodically assess programs for adherence to process as tailored
  • Member of the Engineering Improvement Team, supporting business-level improvement diagnostics, projects, and root cause analyses

This position will require occasional travel within the United States.

Security Clearance: Position requires the candidate to obtain and maintain an SSBI Clearance. Existing SSBI clearance strongly preferred

The candidate can be located in any of the following locations:
CO - Aurora, TX - Richardson, VA – Dulles, PA – State College (Aurora or Richardson preferred)

Required skills:
  • Experience in two or more of the following: definition, deployment, and analysis of metrics, use of metrics as leading indicators to manage team performance, definition of process at the organizational level, tailoring (customization) of business level process for specific project instances, deployment of process change across an organization, leading team through performance transformation
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience with progressive responsibilities; at least 2 of which in a lead role
  • Demonstrated experience on programs/projects involving software or system product development
  • Demonstrated leadership through influence without formal authority
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization
  • Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal

Desired Skills:
  • Existing SSBI Security Clearance
  • Experience working with software engineers and systems engineers
  • Experience working in an Agile or DevOps development process
  • Prior experience leading engineering cost, schedule, and technical execution at the Integrated Product Team, cross-function program team, or program level
  • Prior experience in proposals leading technical solutions or BOEs
  • Able to apply Lean, Six Sigma (for development rather than manufacturing)
  • Strong negotiation skills and courage of convictions
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Must be self-motivated, have a high sense of urgency and be resourceful

Required Education:
BS degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or related technical discipline
