Job Description

This position is for early career individuals who have less than 2 years of professional work experience and who will receive a degree during the current academic year or who received their degree within the last 18 months.

The Electrical Susbsystems Directorate (ESD) Product Technology Center (PTC) is seeking an Electrical Engineer I to join our team as an ECAD designer.

The mission of the PTC is to develop best in industry technologies that align product capabilities to the needs of our customer. We will empower our people to leverage design commonality and innovation, balancing risk and rigor, to achieve predictable and affordable solutions. We are looking for candidates willing to collaborate, innovate and team with our engineers to generate and utilize today’s cutting-edge technology.

Responsible for printed circuit board (PCB) designs from conception to manufacturing including library part creation, schematic capture, component placement, routing, gerber / ODB++ file creation and all documentation using the Mentor Graphics toolset. Designs include flex assemblies and rigid-flex assemblies as well as PCBs . Responsible for interfacing with electrical, mechanical and producibility engineering disciplines to ensure that the overall design requirements are captured and accomplished.



U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.



Required Education/Skills:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree per Raytheon guidelines and less than 18 months of professional engineering experience.
  • Electronic circuit design and layout experience.
  • General knowledge of mechanical components and design sufficient to be able to understand and interpret drawings as they relate to PCBs.
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.


Desired Skills:
  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. 3.0 cumulative GPA desired.
  • Familiarity and/or experience of electrical design process.
  • Working knowledge of operating system concepts and implementations, network services as related to Microsoft Windows environment (Word, Powerpoint, and Excel spreadsheet).
  • Working knowledge of analog, digital, RF, and mixed technology, multi-layer designs with HDI technology.
  • Technical PCB design skills using the Mentor Graphics design toolset including but not limited to the Xpedition environment with working knowledge of Xpedition VX2.1., to include placement, routing, use of the auto-router, constraint manager, xDM and xDM Library Client. Use of BluePrint to create complex PCB drawings.
  • Export manufacturing data of both Gerber and ODB++ and use of Valor Design Rule Checking software.
  • Working knowledge of military and commercial design standards, GD&T techniques and overall producibility considerations related to electronic packaging design is desired.
  • Familiarity with IPC 6013 is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles.
