Job Description

This position is for a Senior Multi-Discipline Engineer I to support activities in our world class Visualization and Additive Manufacturing Lab where the candidate will be involved in Rapid Prototyping, Additive Manufacturing, 3D Scanning, & Assembly Integration & Test. The successful candidate will be working closely with the senior mechanical engineering staff directly in the lab space. Major tasks will include the design, development and build of cutting edge prototype working models and demonstrations as well as engineering lab AI&T execution tasks.

This position will also include development of selection guides & qualification for AM polymer materials. Candidate will also be working directly with Additive Manufacturing machines while reviewing quality, performance, & repeatability of AM workproducts. Tasks will also include design and interrogation of CAD/geometry files. Comfortability working in an environment with demanding schedules and quick turn execution requests is a must.

This position will provide exposure to Space Hardware & Tactical topics & processes such as lubrication, optical performance & alignments, mechanism testing, contamination control, thermal performance & control, metrology & mass properties.

Required Skills:
  • 4+ years of experience
  • Basic knowledge of oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, analyzing and interrogating part and assembly drawings
  • Previous experience in position within a shop or laboratory environment
  • Experience in System Assembly Integration & Test
  • Bonding and aligning of optics and optical systems
  • Experience with IRAD Additive Manufacturing & Functional Prototypes.
  • Proficient in drawing interrogation, GD&T and precision mechanical fits.
  • Experience with standard shop measurement equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, indicators, etc.
  • Experience with standard machine shop equipment such as mills, lathes and grinders
  • Experience with standard sheet metal equipment such as shears, breaks and rollers
  • Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
  • Experience analyzing and interrogating part and assembly drawings.
  • Advanced CAD experience
  • Large assemblies, Simulate (a.k.a. Pro/mechanica), surfacing, piping module and cabling module
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong Leadership skills with ability to perform within diverse team environments.
  • Familiarity with job estimation and project scope determination.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers, related software applications and Microsoft office tools.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with ProEngineer / CREO / PTC CAD Tools
  • Experience with GeoMagic DesignX. SolidWorks, & PolyWorks
  • Previous experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance standards, specifically ASME Y14.100

Required Education:
Bachelor of Science Degree, in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM discipline
