The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program, is seeking a highly motivated full time Deployment Lead to provide technical leadership for the JPSS Common Ground System located at the Raytheon facility located in Aurora, CO

Raytheon is developing the next-generation global weather satellite system. The JPSS program is developing, deploying, and sustaining the JPSS Common Ground System which includes the Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS) and the Command, Control, and Communications Segment (C3S). This leadership role is for the JPSS C3S Deployment Lead on the C3S Team and will report directly to the C3S IPT lead.

The Deployment Lead is responsible for oversight, management, coordination and execution of the full C3S maintenance deployment effort. This role is ideal for someone with knowledge of the C3S software, hardware and deployment processes since each maintenance release is being deployed to existing operational strings.

JPSS C3S Deployment Lead manages a cross site engineering team between Aurora, CO and Riverdale, MD. The Lead is responsible for the oversight and leadership of all software/hardware maintenance/deployment planning, installation, integration, regression, delivery and operational support activities for all C3S deployment releases. Additionally, the lead will oversee simulator maintenance, operational system readiness and operational anomaly activities. As the C3S Deployment Lead, this individual will regularly interface with customers on deployment and operational issues and manage detailed integration and deployment schedules for multiple operational sites.

While the deployment team is split across two Raytheon locations: Aurora, CO and Riverdale, MD, the Deployment Lead must provide additional planning/coordination/leadership to a broader team which includes Mission/Quality Assurance, Software Configuration Management, Computers & Storage, Hardware, Deployed Systems Team, Security and several others within JPSS.

The leadership of the Deployment team is critical to JPSS as the deployment lead manages all of the JPSS C3S system deployments and works with NOAA Operations, NASA Engineering, and NASA Mission Assurance to ensure the build releases are on schedule, accurate, and do not perturb ongoing satellite operations. The lead must be an excellent communicator and capable of pulling significant amounts of data together to ensure the team is functioning optimally and accurately to achieve success. The lead must also be able to effectively work cross function as the team is made up of many different experts (I.e. HW, SW, SE, INF/SA, Network, Security) to ensure success.

The individual needs to be a highly motivated, self-starter that can quickly learn/assimilate complex situations/problems, identify root cause, formulate corrective action plans, communicate effectively and drive to completion/resolution.

Duties can include, but are not limited to:
  • Leadership of a multi-functional team
  • Technical oversight and guidance of planning, installation, integration, regression and deployment of the C3S HW/SW
  • Extensive communication with the program management office and customer (NOAA/NASA)
  • Follow established deployment/maintenance release processes and procedures to ensure compliance and on-time delivery
Clearance Requirement: Must be a US Citizens with a current/active Secret Clearance and the ability to obtain/maintain a TS/SCI

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience
  • Proven leadership skills for a geographically dispersed cross functional team (HW, SW, SE, INF/SA, Security, Networks)
  • Demonstrated experience in sustainment or with maintenance release activities
  • Strong integration and troubleshooting background
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills with a customer and/or program management
  • Organized and detail oriented to ensure proper tasking and execution of detailed inchstones/tasking
  • Experience with field/site deployment of complex computer, network, storage, and COTS based satellite ground systems
  • Project management experience
