Job Description

What is the impact on the product of a failure in a safety significant item? What is the likelihood a given failure will occur? Given the environments, if it fails what are the failure modes and outcomes of the failure? How can we effectively design in safety to preclude hazards from occurring, or to mitigate the effects of the hazard? How will we effectively characterize and communicate mishap risk to the customer? These are the questions System Safety engineers answer everyday. Engineering interns work under the direction of senior System Safety engineers and their engineering leadership on System Safety engineering tasks and hazard analyses, as members of the System Safety Engineering Department. So what does a System Safety Engineer do? They identify hazards and mitigations, document all analysis, verification results and procedures, characterize and communicate product risk to both program and customer personnel. The System Safety Engineer participates in all design reviews and customer meetings. They typically function as a systems oriented engineer with a broad view of the project starting from the piece part level through the products final form - over its lifecycle. The System Safety Engineer is a vocal proponent of the safety of a product, communicating with customer Safety Review Boards. The occupation requires a high degree of self-motivation, confidence, diligence, ethics, and ability to effectively interface with peers, management, customers and review authorities.

The System Safety Engineering Department is seeking System Safety Engineering Interns. System Safety Engineering ensures our system perform their required mission functions safely through their required environments while meeting overall cost constraints.
