The Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, Systems Mission Area in Raytheon Space & Airborne Systems, seeks a Summer Intern to provide technical support and analysis to several programs or Internal Research and Development (IRAD) efforts. The programs are radar related which need algorithm and analysis support. The IRADs are related to advanced antenna designs, phased array architectures, or applications. The position will reside in the System Engineering Integration & Test Center (SEIT) within the Advanced Concept Architecture and Analysis section. This systems engineer will work amongst other Systems Engineers and will support the chief engineer, and lead systems engineer. Specific duties may include performance analysis, algorithm development, algorithm analysis, trade study generation, statistical modeling, performance predictions, and data analysis, for complex systems using Raytheon Engineering processes and practices. Related day-to-day duties include: participating in peer reviews, performance analysis, and resolving identified problems. This individual will interface with their team lead, team members, and other teams on a daily basis, conduct or participate in customer and/or program presentations, and provide task progress status updates and work products to the team lead. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.


Job Related Activities:

  • Using MATLAB to model radar algorithms
  • Using tools to model and analyze the performance of antennas (elements or array)
  • Work with leadership and/or customers to elicit objectives and requirements and resolve technical issues
  • Participate in customer reviews and program technical reviews
  • Ensure the consistent application of engineering best practices and all activities undertaken under your control are conducted to common standards in accordance with Raytheon's IPDS processes
  • Using Raytheon 6 Sigma proactively to foster a culture of continuous process improvement

For Multi-Level Intern Requisitions:
This position can be a Salary Grade of G04, G05 or NUG based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

  • G04 (College Junior by Fall 2019) - must have completed 60 hours of college
  • G05 (College Senior by Fall 2019) - must have completed 90 hours of college
  • NUG (Post- Graduate-Masters-PhD by Fall 2019) - must have an undergraduate degree and currently enrolled or about to enroll in a graduate degree program

Required Skills:

  • Experience in any of the following areas: Signal Processing, Antenna Engineering, or Radar Systems
  • Strong mathematical problem solving ability
  • Ability to work as a member of a dedicated team reporting to an algorithm integrated product team
  • Must be able to obtain an interim Secret security clearance PRIOR to starting
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal communication, presentation skills, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated capability of completing and following established procedures and schedules
  • Experience working on a radar problem in an academic or industrial setting.
  • Experience with antenna fabrication using PCBs
  • Experience with UHF and VHF antennas

Required Education (including major): Currently pursuing a BS / BA degree from a four-year university and entering as a college Junior or Senior year OR pursuing a MS / MA / PhD by Fall 2019. Must be working towards a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering Major, or equivalent technical discipline. Must be appropriate grade level listed above.
