The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on product producibility and mission assurance. It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) to introduce reliable new products faster, better, and more economically.

A successful candidate for the Mechanical Engineering position will perform Structural Analyses on a wide variety of complex electronic components, modules, and systems for airborne, ground and space-based platforms. You will perform analysis tasks as a part of a larger design/analysis team and under the supervision of senior analysts, but will also perform analyses independently. Tasks will typically evaluate the structural integrity of electronic RF and EO/IR systems for static and dynamic strength, stiffness, durability, material creep and thermal-elastic effects. More advanced analysis techniques using non-linear methods will also be required. You will work to influence the efficiency and integrity of the structural design and will often support design reviews.

Required Skills:

  • Successfully completed advanced college courses in Applied Finite Element Analysis for Engineers, Mechanical Engineering Design, Shock and Vibration, Strength Analysis of Structures and Mechanics of Materials.
  • Experience performing quality structural analysis work under aggressive budgets and schedules.
  • Familiarity with commercial Finite Element Analysis software packages.
  • Experience performing closed-form solutions and other hand calculations to evaluate the structural integrity of a system and to verify Finite Element results.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date
  • Ability to access to US only data systems

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with the structural analysis software packages ABAQUS/CAE and PATRAN/NASTRAN.
  • Experience performing structural analyses of electronic components/modules/systems on airborne or space platforms, consistent with industry standards.
  • Knowledge of electronic package assembly and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of fracture mechanics.
  • Experience developing a Free Body Diagram of a structural system to gain insight to efficient load paths.
  • Ability to solve unique and challenging structural problems, with some oversight from senior engineers, by applying critical thinking skills and a working knowledge of scientific principles, theories and concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, having the ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information to customers.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
  • Ability to understand detailed engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications.
  • Experience with the commercial CAD software package PTC Creo (Pro/Engineer).
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (Please upload an unofficial transcript when applying).

Required Education:
Must have a MS / MA from an accredited university with a major in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline by Summer 2018 or have graduated within 18 months prior to start date.

This position requires a U.S. person or the ability to obtain an Export Authorization from the appropriate government agency for non-U.S. persons

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
