The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on product producibility and mission assurance. It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) to introduce reliable new products faster, better, and more economically.

In this role you will provide Materials and Process Engineering support to the RF Systems and Radomes Department. This involves supporting development and production programs. Specific areas of need are in composite development and fabrication, adhesive bonding, material properties testing, mechanical testing, and process documentation. Development support will be Design Verification Testing of composite parts, material and process selection for new products, and product transition to production. Production support may be required in one or more areas in phased array and aperture system assembly, composite radome fabrication and bonding, resin transfer molding, and process documentation in all areas.

Tasks will also include interfacing with Process & Test Engineer Team's customers and providing sufficient communication (written and oral) to keep all parties informed of progress. An important role will be maintaining cohesive environments with all your teams within the business unit.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of polymer materials or fabrication methods through coursework and/or hands-on experience (composites preferred)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the relationships of nonmetallic materials and their properties to assist with design producibility.
  • Knowledge and understanding of statistical concepts and how to apply them to development and production processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering and scientific methods and tools to characterize behavior of products and processes (laboratory experience preferred)
  • Complete computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email)
  • Ability to access to US only data systems

Desired Skills:

  • Strong initiative to develop a process and transition it into production (training of operators).
  • Hands-on initiative and problem solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical assembly.
  • Basic understanding of material property dependency on processing parameters
  • Ability to effectively communicate and document results in reports, specifications, and supporting data
  • Existing knowledge of composite materials (and willingness to demonstrate processes in the labs).
  • Demonstrated organizational skills including documentation of processes.
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience (thermal analysis techniques, mechanical properties testing, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency to handle a variety of activities within multiple areas.
  • Proven work ethic, dedication to co-workers, and ability to foster team growth.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills including documentation of processes.
  • Familiar with multi-disciplined Integrated Product Team methods and processes
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (Please upload an unofficial transcript when applying)

Required Education: Must have a BS / BA from an accredited university with a major in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Composite Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Tech by Summer 2018 or have graduated within 18 months prior to start date.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

This position requires a U.S. person or the ability to obtain an Export Authorization from the appropriate government agency for non-U.S. persons
