Job Description

Please Note: This position can be a Salary Grade G6 or G7 based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience, and responsibility requirements for this position.
The Raytheon Diné Facility (RDF) is a remote location factory structured under the Missile Systems business unit of Raytheon Company. RDF manufactures a wide variety of electro mechanical devices and end products. The successful RDF Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer candidate will have the task of planning and executing the production of our wide range of weapon systems, from tactical missiles to strategic defense products utilizing existing skills and experience. This position currently is managed by the production engineering manager and will have tasking from numerous RDF team members.

Responsibilities:

RDF Manufacturing Engineers are responsible for designing, controlling and improving the manufacturing process and system design, through a collaborative effort with the factory process team. The goals Manufacturing Engineering is to reduce cycle time and customer lead time, reduce inventory, improve productivity, reduce material cost, and improve performance of the value chain.
Specific responsibilities include manufacturing process control and performance monitoring, planning and incorporation of design changes, creating and overseeing projects using risk management techniques, translating engineering design requirements into formal manufacturing process documentation, disposition of discrepant hardware and leading corrective action investigations to prevent recurrence, developing tooling concepts, and customer and supplier interface.

Required Skills:
  • Some experience in specialized production within a manufacturing environment focused on safety, quality, schedule and cost
  • Verifiable experience in providing technical leadership to multi-disciplined teams associated with specific assemblies to ensure safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives are met
  • Experience working closely with production or process equipment operators, line leads, supervisors, and other technical disciplines (quality and tooling engineers, facilities maintenance personnel, etc.) to support operations by maintaining the effectiveness and reliability of production lines
  • Proof of expertise in all phases of product life cycles, beginning with proposal development and advanced manufacturing initiatives, continuing through production implementation and extending to support of customer requirements and supply chain demands
  • Capable of diagnosing problem root cause with limited upfront information
  • Ability to perform project management and risk mitigation
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and statistical process control
    • Experience working complex systems include automated conveyor systems, automated wire cutting / tinning / crimping machines, industrial manipulators, hydraulic spring compression systems and specialized printing equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly when production or process issues arise. Experience in accurately diagnosing problems and implementing solutions to restore production functionality.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with manufacturers’ technical support or other outside experts to solve complex problems
  • Experience in reading, understanding, and using schematics, blueprints, and operating manuals to solve production and equipment problems
  • Experience in working with machine shops or vendors to fabricate or procure replacement parts for products and equipment
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to ascertain production or process weaknesses and ensure adequate proactive solutions are in place to eliminate production downtime
  • Demonstrated ability to select new machines, components, and equipment to meet program performance requirements
  • Experience in adjusting software parameters on production or process equipment to fix problems or improve performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The position requires an individual that can write technical process documents, write production work instructions and communicate production needs / status to all levels of the organization in a professional and thorough manner. The individual must communicate effectively with production supervisors, managers and plant management.
  • Able to climb ladders, bend, reach, stoop, as well as lift/pull/push up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, self-motivated, dependable, and work well with others in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow rules and regulations. Willing to comply with all pertinent Raytheon Environmental, Health, & Safety Organizational Directives and Instructions and other applicable Program and Site Directives and Raytheon Company Policies.
  • Testable computer skills in equipment operating systems, control systems, and MS Office administrate systems
  • Knowledge and experience using SAP based production systems
Required Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
