Job Description

Raytheon is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern with the technical and communication skills needed to support ongoing programs at our Springfield, Virginia location.

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, the candidate will support engineering activities and senior engineers on programs. Tasking may include design and analysis of fixtures and mechanisms, creating detailed fabrication drawings, mechanical lab testing, rapid prototyping and assembly, report writing, contribution to presentations, and support to design reviews. Candidates must be professional, self-starters, possess a positive attitude, and work well with the engineering and technician teams.

Required Skills

  • Fundamental engineering skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Experience and/or coursework in solid modeling CAD, preferably Solidworks

This position requires the ability to access systems that contain information restricted to US Citizens based on certain Federal Government contractual requirements.

Desired Skills

  • Course work in Mechanical Engineering

  • Course work in Finite Element Analysis

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Experience with mechanical assembly

  • Experience with laboratory testing

Required Education

Candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a BS or Masters technical degree in the area of Mechanical Engineering.A GPA of 3.0+ in a 4.0 grade scale is desired. Please include your transcript with your resume. You must have obtained junior or senior status as of summer 2018.


This position can be Salary Grade Salary Grade ST03, or Salary Grade ST04 based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

ST03 (TechStudent–Junior) – must have completed 90 hours of college credits towards degree and obtained Junior status as of Summer 2018.
ST04 (TechStudent-Senior) – must have completed 120 hours of college credits towards degree and obtained Senior status as of Summer 2018.
