Description: Engineering Intern
Grade: Intern/Co-op

An opportunity currently exists in Raytheon's Microelectronics Engineering & Technology (MET) department as a summer 2018 Intern. MET develops, designs, tests, and manufactures compound semiconductor devices, millimeter/microwave integrated circuits, and modules for defense and commercial applications.

Job Description: The individual in this role will serve as a process engineering intern for wafer fabrication in the RF Components production wafer fab. In order to succeed at this role, the candidate should have a versatile background and experience in various aspects of laboratory work. A successful candidate will be self-motivating and capable of high quality teamwork and will work alongside senior process engineers. A broad understanding of semiconductor processing, microelectronic circuit testing and RF design is also desirable.

Research and development will be in disciplines of wafer fabrication including two or more of the following areas: metal and dielectric deposition, etch, photolithography processing, chemical mechanical polishing, materials and materials growth (including GaAs and GaN), testing, as well as failure analysis and characterization.

This position could require the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. (Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO) an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement. Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens).

Basic Qualification:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a BS, MS, or PhD degree program with an emphasis in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or related engineering or science curriculum. Candidate must also have the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Do you have any of the following Desired Qualifications?
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Highly skilled in teamwork and collaboration
  • Experience with III-V compound semiconductor fabrication or test
  • Experience in statistical process control and lean manufacturing methods
  • Understanding of integrated circuit functionality
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and laboratory skills
  • Ability to focus and organize several different tasks at once
  • Knowledge of MS Office or other presentation tools
  • Previous internship or co-op with a defense contractor and/or government agency
