Job Description

Are you a college student or recent graduate who enjoys putting complex engineering systems together, testing and attempting to break them? Would you like to understand how systems fail and then participate in developing fixes or redesigns, retesting and ultimately fielding a system which will perform each and every time?

Do you have or will you be receiving a BS or MS degree in an engineering or science curriculum? Are you interested in becoming a Systems Engineer working in integration, test and validation activities? Then you might be ready to begin your professional career as an engineer with Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Systems Validation, Test and Analysis Directorate (SVTAD).

The Systems Validation, Test and Analysis Directorate (SVTAD) is responsible for integration, test and validation activities for Raytheon IDS Programs. SVTAD employees provide the expertise to ensure customer success through the development and execution of innovative and comprehensive test, verification, and validation strategies, processes, tools and techniques. SVTAD employees are involved in all aspects of test including: design-for-test, integration, subsystem and component level testing, and sell-off of IDS ' most sophisticated systems and technologies. Our System Engineers work with the other IDS Engineering disciplines from development of initial system concepts to product sell-off. We integrate hardware and software, develop test plans and procedures, debug and test system functions and interfaces, and verify system requirements in support of final selloff to the customer.

Opportunities currently exist within SVTAD's Seapower and Sensor Systems Department in San Diego CA. The Seapower and Sensors Systems Department (SSS) provides expertise in the integration, validation, and sell off for various defense programs within IDS. SSS Engineers are involved in all aspects of the Integrated Product Development System (IPDS) cycle. SSS engineers have ownership authority to ensure that individual items are integrated and perform as expected as well as ensuring that the system can be sold off. In San Diego CA some of the programs SVTAD SSS supports are the Ship Self Defense System (SSDS), GPS-based Position, Navigation and Timing Service (GPNTS) and Landing Platform Dock (LPD) programs SSS supports Above Water Sensors, Undersea Systems, Integrated Mission Systems and Air and Missile Defense Radar family of programs.

New hires will help integrate systems, (the “pieces” and how they fit together), verify the performance against functional requirements defined for the system (what it must be capable of doing and how well), write procedures that validate requirements and design of the products that make up the system (what components are needed and how they must perform), and perform qualification tests of the components into the overall system in preparation for its testing.
