Job Description:
Successful candidate for Mechanical Engineer I will develop conceptual and detailed design drawings for Mechanical Special Test Equipment (STE) and Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) for used during Integration and Test of space and airborne instruments. Typical types of equipment to be designed are: lift fixtures, shipping containers, vibe fixtures, mass models/simulators, test/assembly stands, test adaptors for electronic boards and equipment, and cooling carts. Design support will be provided through all phase of the program life-cycle, from proposal, to conceptual design/requirements derivation, to PDR/CDR, and build/test/delivery. The Mechanical Engineer I may be closely aligned with the Program and may support internal and external design reviews. They may be a part of a small team and be overseen by a hardware IPT Lead, STE Lead or Mechanical Design Lead. The Mechanical Engineer I may be required to perform structural analysis on non-flight designs and present results to management.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Required Skills:

  • Must be able to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field
  • 0-1 years experience in manufacturing, assembly and test, processes, materials and development
  • 3-D modeling experience
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (Please upload an unofficial transcript when applying)
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with 3-D modeling using Pro-Engineer/Creo or other CAD tools, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methods, and be knowledgeable in reading mechanical fabrication and assembly drawings
  • Production support including the use of basic measurement tools such as calipers and gauges
  • Ability to draft communications, create and deliver presentations
  • Able to work independently and as a team member
  • Prior experience designing, testing and / or supporting aerospace / defense-related products

Required Education (including major): Must have a BS / BA from an ABET accredited university with a major in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or other related field by Summer 2017 or have graduated within 18 months prior to start date.?
