Job Description

Utility Person III

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. REC serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. REC has a job opening for the position of Utility Person III. Candidate must have a High school graduate or general educational development (General Equivalency Diploma) required. Must have three (3) years of experience with facilities maintenance, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units, general repairs on lights, plumbing, grounds care and general vehicle maintenance. Experience with local building and fire codes preferred. Must have a working knowledge of how to perform minor repairs on office type lighting, plumbing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units. Working knowledge of facility generators and UPS systems preferred. Must have the ability to interpret facility blueprints. Must have a thorough knowledge of grounds care procedures. Must possess basic computer skills, to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Must have the ability to: maintain a general office building with oversight of cleaning contractors; operate lawn mowers and other lawn care equipment; must be able to operate a five-ton truck with a trailer for general hauling; have a current Virginia Driver's license; able to assist in minor maintenance of various apparatus and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units. Coordinate, communicate and complete facility requests with limited supervision; operate fork lifts. Analyze problems and suggest solutions and effectively deal with a variety of people under different circumstances. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Usually working within the general office building, warehouse, and on the grounds. Occasional out of town technical seminars and conferences may be required. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and be able to lift and move heavy objects. Expected to be available in emergency situations. Must be willing to work long hours and subject to call 24 hours a day. Overtime is frequently required.
