QP Manufacturing in seeking a first shift CNC Lathe Setup Operator for its Chardon, Ohio facility. QP is growing and one of the leading production centers in North East Ohio with capability of manufacturing precision components and assemblies using CNC turning, milling, multi-axis mill turning and other processes. We meet the needs of our worldwide customers and the demands of the ever-changing manufacturing industry.

Position Description

The CNC Machinist Setup/Operator sets up, operates and maintains machine to ensure the efficient running of production. The person in this role works with mechanical aptitude, high attention to detail and maintains all safety standards.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Performs machine setups (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start a production cycle
  • Understands specifications and desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings etc.
  • Translates instructions into computer commands so machines perform the correct functions
  • Runs production as needed
  • Controls and adjust the functions and settings of machines (eg speed)
  • Loads and unloads raw material or parts onto the machine
  • Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools to ensure they meet requirements
  • Test the operation of machines periodically to guarantee their smooth running
  • Troubleshoots issues that arise during the shift
  • Check output to discover any machine-related mistakes or flaws

Critical Competencies

  • Works well independently and demonstrates a high drive for results
  • Good communication abilities, collaborates effectively with other members of the team
  • Demonstrates a keen eye for detail and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated experience with Mazatrol Programming and G-code editing.

Additional Requirements

  • Minor travel as needed
  • Must have basic machinist tools


  • High School Diploma or equivalent education
  • Proven experience as CNC Lathe setup operator
  • Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
  • Computer savvy with basic understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM
  • Demonstrated math skills
  • Basic knowledge of quality systems and associated equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in engineering or relevant discipline preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand on feet for a minimum of 8-10 hours without issue
  • Must be able to lift maximum 30 lbs regularly and repeatedly on a daily basis.
