Job Description

This position has a limited duration of 1 year with continuation dependent upon additional funding. Benefits do apply.

Essential Duties:

* Responsible for the maintenance of all mechanical and civil engineering equipment in all ME, CE and MSE labs. Assists staff in identifying malfunctioning equipment, diagnosing problems, and repairing and calibrating. Suggests new lab policies according to need.


* Conducts training in ME / CE labs and revises lab manuals.


* Maintains inventory of parts and equipment and orders necessary items and supplies including computer software to keep all mechanical and civil engineering laboratories functioning properly.


* Initiates new projects and makes recommendations for updating laboratories, developing new labs and ordering and/or designing, fabricating and testing new lab equipment. Installs new equipment and assists students with senior design projects.


* Supervises operations of the mechanical and civil engineering labs. Responsible for the maintenance of all mechanical engineering equipment in the following:


* ENGR 19000 Introduction to Engineering Labs
* ME 31300 Fluid Mechanic Lab
* ME 34500 Mechanical engineering experimentation Lab
* ME 41700 Heat Transmission Lab
* ME 48600 Manufacturing and Robotics Lab
* MSE 34400 Materials in Engineering Lab
* ME 46100 Machine Design I Lab
* CE 20100 Surveying & GIS Lab
* CE 20400 Civil Engineering Materials Lab
* CE 27301 Mechanics of Materials Lab
* CE 34200 Engineering Hydrology & Hydraulics Lab
* CE 32300 Soils Engineering Lab
* And any other new labs developed in Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department.
* Suggests new lab policies according to need and enforces rules and regulations. Maintains inventory of parts and equipment and orders necessary items and supplies including computer software to keep all mechanical engineering laboratories functioning properly. Initiates new projects and makes recommendations for updating laboratories. Assists faculty in projects which sometimes include design, fabrication and testing, especially senior design projects.



Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Sciences required. Two or more years of experience maintaining, repairing, operating and calibrating all mechanical and civil engineering machinery and labs required. Experience using and updating lab manuals required. Experience required operating machinery, preferably CNC machines; familiar with AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Experience machining, preferably CNC; ME & Ce labs required. Must be certified in machining. Must have ability to operate, repair, and maintain ME & CE machines. Familiar with AutoCAD and SolidWorks required.
