Job Description

The Purdue Experimental TurbineAerothermal Lab (PETAL) focuses on the development of turbine aerodynamic andheat transfer technologies. PETAL is the nation's most advanced turbine lab forcompact gas turbine engines. The lab develops turbine technology to abatepollution and noise emissions, contribute towards hybrid electrical propulsionand compact power units. Assist in the development of advanced instrumentationthrough application of skills, motivation, and a self-starting demeanor.

Support the PETAL engineering and scientificstaff with the design, fabrication, calibration, and implementation of advancedprobes for aerothermal testing. The implementation of the instrumentationincludes mounting the probes and electrical wiring from the measurement locationto the conditioning system, working in collaboration with the engineers andgraduate research assistants. Troubleshoot, repair the mechanical andelectronic components, and recalibrate the devices. Procure the electronic andmechanical components needed in new construction, test fixtures and repairs.The Purdue recharge centers will be used, along with third party vendors toperform some of the fine machining.

Required:

* Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Aviation Maintenance Technology, or related field
* Two years of experience assembling fine mechanical systems and electronic boards
* Skilled in using solder iron, hand tools, power tools, wiring, and assembly
* Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build professional relationships within a diverse workforce, including international graduate research assistants)
* Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
* Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines
* Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information and implement solutions
* Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion
* Willingness to learn new manufacturing technologies (i.e. additive manufacturing)
* Valid US or Canadian driver's license

Preferred:

* Experience in the fabrication and repair of instrumentation
* Trained as a watchmaker
* Knowledge of measurement techniques, particularly on aerothermal instrumentation
