The successful candidate will assist in developing and proposing future transmission and distribution system upgrades required to maintain bulk power, 69 kV and distribution system reliability for the short and long range planning horizons.  This position requires close interaction for coordination of future expansion plans with the PJM Regional Transmission Organization planning group and local divisions. 
Work function includes power system simulation studies, short circuit analysis, determination of feasibility and scope for proposed direct generation and merchant transmission interconnection, including distributed energy resources (PJM Queue process & non-PJM applications) and network enhancements as well as baseline/supplemental transmission expansion projects impacting the PSE&G bulk power system and 69 kV systems.
Conduct engineering analysies to evaluate the timing of transmission reinforcements to ensure the reliability and economic operation of the bulk power system, performing complex power system engineering studies to determine the PSE&G transmission system limitations (thermal, voltage, short-circuit, and stability), operating capability and performing short range planning analysis and analyze potential operating limitations and develop operating procedures to guide the system operators. Responsible for providing oversight, guidance and direction to technical teams and construction groups. Responsible for managing the estimating and other financial tools related to the utility board, PJM and the Board of Public Utility (BPU). This position will require participation in RTO committees and working groups.

As an employee of PSE&G, you should be aware that during storm/outage restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and your regular work schedule.  You may also be required to work in an alternate location.

 

Required:

  • B.S in Electrical Engineering and at least 8 years of power systems analysis experience
  • Requires strong working knowledge of power flow, short circuit, system operations and contingency planning; knowledge of PSS/E and ASPEN/PI/PYTHON strongly preferred
  • Experience with electric transmission and distribution operations, familiarity with inside/outside plant assets and experience in interpreting one-line diagrams, electrical and civil construction drawings.
  • Experience with electric transmission and distribution substation equipment and distribution/transmission feeders’ components and ratings.
  • Should have a strong understanding and knowledge of NERC, PJM planning criteria, load flow, load forecast, contingency analysis and planning. 
  • Must have demonstrated ability to manage multiple issues and projects.  Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with internal and external groups.  Clearly demonstrated individual and team leadership on critical projects and initiatives.  Proven ability to present technical information to an audience. 
  • Strong understanding of the FERC Order 1000 process and Regional Transmission Organizations
  • Strong understanding of Asset Management Asset Life Cycle programs, IEEE1547, UL1741; knowledge of Distribute Energy Storage policies, regulatory info and markets.
  • Strong individual initiative and ability to work independently on most technical issues
  • Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making; strong planning and organizing skills; must be adaptable and results-oriented.

 

Desired:

  • PE license, or advanced technical training.
  • Advanced technical or engineering degree/MBA
