Marine Production Engineer:

Ready to join a fast growing Boat Manufacturing organization? Our client is expanding its Engineering Department. This is a brand new role within the company and will report directly to the Sr. Manager of Engineering. This is a growth opportunity, if successful there will be an opportunity to become the Chief Production Engineer over the Production group as more positions are added. You will be responsible for working with Production Management, Engineering, and Planning. Your main task is to be in the driver's seat at beginning of production, managing any engineering that needs to occur. You will also provide technical field engineering support and coordination for production, test and trials, and post-delivery warranty project phases. Continuous Process Improvement is vital to the organization and you will be responsible documenting and maintaining standard operating procedures as well as mentoring Jr. Engineers. Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Project Management Team to ensure the successful completion of on-going or new projects.
  • Participate in Process Development efforts, especially in regards to project planning and work flow.
  • Support the Planning Department in developing a build strategy for projects.
  • Support Production Engineering as needed throughout the production of projects.
  • Define and document build strategies for production, collaborating with Production and Planning Management.
  • Support the Project Engineer throughout vessel design, focusing on designing for efficient production
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables for production.
  • Manage the engineering of projects at the inception of production, providing technical support and solutions to production during construction, tracking all production issues that arise for later quality analysis.
  • Support in the development of the technical portions of change orders: pricing materials and working with production to estimate labor required.
  • Participate in Process Development and Documentation efforts.
  • Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), reporting and recommending vessel changes back to the Project Engineer to update engineering packages for current and future builds
  • Facilitate ABS, USCG, USN and other regulatory body inspections.
  • Be the technical point of contact with sub-contractors, providing technical oversight and guidance during the evaluation phase and throughout construction
  • Track all issues that arise and report the status of projects to senior leadership and the Planning Department.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or similar
  • A Minimum of 7 years in the marine industry, specifically in the design and/or production of vessels under 200'.
  • At least 3 years of Project Engineering or Project Management experience
  • Working knowledge of Project Management & Administration, Marine Construction Materials, Procurement, Estimating, Scheduling, Project Tracking Software, Cost Control, Engineering & Project Standards, and Safety & Environmental Compliance.
  • Ability to quickly learn the technical aspects of the business; be an effective communicator; and have the ability to interface well with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • An understanding of all aspects of aluminum vessel design and construction:
  • Structures
  • Familiarity with Classification Society rules (ABS, DNV, USCG, etc.)
  • Electrical Systems
  • Onboard systems including, but not limited to: propulsion machinery, piping, HVAC, hydraulics, etc.
  • Aluminum fabrication
  • Skills geared towards engineering and design for production
  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook)
  • Solidworks and ShipConstructor preferred
