Job Description

Electrical Marine Engineer:

Ready to join a fast growing Boat Manufacturing organization? Our client is expanding its Engineering Department. You will report to the Chief Engineer and will be responsible for design modifications and improvements to electrical marine systems and components. Perform designs, design reviews, evaluate constructability, help resolve technical issues, and manage information generated through the electrical design and construction phases of multiple and concurrent projects ranging from small boats to vessels in excess of 150 feet. Continuous Process Improvement is vital to the organization and you will be responsible documenting and maintaining standard operating procedures.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical load and voltage drop analyses on single and three phase AC systems, as well as DC systems
  • Progressive experience in one of the following marine fields: electric propulsion systems; machinery control systems; power generation and distribution systems; or interior communications systems
  • Experience with supporting a major system acquisition program (DHS/USCG Level I, DoD ACAT I or equivalent), specifically shipbuilding acquisitions
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, excellent organizational skills, the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external customers, and the ability to work independently and take a proactive role.
  • Experience with IPS (Integrated Power Systems), Electric Propulsion, EZ Power Software (Short circuit, power flow and arc flash analysis), High Voltage Distribution System (5000 volt), Power quality/total harmonic distortion, Voltage Dip, electric propulsion systems; machinery control systems; power generation and distribution systems; or interior communications systems; R&M Engineering, navigation and integrated bridge, command and control systems, and communications and sensors.
  • Develop electrical schematics, cable routing plans, and cable length estimates o Specify and source electrical equipment to be installed onboard vessels
  • Develop electrical equipment arrangements
  • Assist in and develop the technical portions of change orders: pricing materials and working with project engineers to estimate labor required
  • Support Production Engineering as needed throughout the production of projects
  • Support the development of standard processes and procedures in regards to electrical engineering
  • Review electrical engineering deliverables for quality, approving them for production
  • Support the preparation of class submittals to USCG, ABS, and other regulatory bodies
  • Specify, evaluate and recommend sub-contract labor for major electrical equipment installation
  • Review electrical engineering deliverables for quality, approving them for production
  • Support the development of standard processes and procedures, with respect to systems and electrical engineering
  • Support Electrical Engineering efforts as needed throughout the production of projects
  • Engineer & design electrical systems
  • Specify and source electrical equipment to be installed onboard vessels
  • Support the preparation of class submittals to USCG, ABS, and other regulatory bodies

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Preferred experience in supporting a major system shipbuilding acquisition program - preferably Coast Guard and/or Navy experience or other government agency.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with marine equipment and installation standards.
  • Experience conducting marine electrical engineering analysis as they relate to vessels.
  • A minimum of 3 years in the marine industry, specifically in the design of boat or ship systems
  • Marine AC 1 phase and 3 phase electrical systems and components
  • Marine DC electrical systems and components
  • Familiarity with Classification Society rules (ABS, DNV, USCG, ABYC, etc.)
  • Experience working with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook), Solidworks preferred, Solidworks Electrical preferred
