Job Description:

The position is focused on the design, integration and functional testing of mechanical components including motors, drive systems, undersea pressure vessels, undersea cables and connectors, fiber optics and working closely with electrical engineers to integrate circuit boards, sensors and power electronics. Mechanical and electrical components require design and integration for a number of projects including small autonomous underwater sensors and an innovative thruster. The candidate will work closely with the electrical engineers to integrate and test prototypes.

The key duties are:

* Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research, applying principles of mechanics and structural analysis, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.
* Prepare mechanical designs in Solid Works (SW) and document the design in drawings.
* Prepare manufacturing drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009 as well as Progeny standards and work with the manufacturer to produce the product.
* Perform or assist with the integration of components and prototypes in the laboratory and field.
* Confirm fabrication and develop and document assembly and installation processes.
* Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods, testing components and prototypes.
* Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
* Work closely with electrical engineers to model the placement of Printed Circuit Board components and connectors.
* Possess strong systems engineering, test and evaluation and report writing skills.

Skills/Requirements

Skills/Qualifications

* Entry level to 7 years of progressive mechanical engineering responsibilities.
* Solid Works modeling and design skills, and experience with metal working and hand tools is required.
* Ability to perform hands-on integration of systems and test devices with minimal oversight is expected.
* Knowledge of Matlab, machining and milling tools and computational fluid dynamics is desired.

Education/Experience

* BS in Mechanical, Marine or Aerospace Engineering.
* Entry level to seven years of mechanical engineering responsibilities.

This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.
