Job Description

Overview

The Princeton University Politics Department is seeking one or more research specialists for summer 2019. We are looking for skilled and motivated individuals to work approximately 30-35 hours per week for the duration of the summer.

Responsibilities

The positions will be based at Princeton University and will entail close collaboration with Professor Kristopher Ramsay on a research project involving questions related to political violence and the international market for small arms. The position will include a variety of tasks that provide preparation for graduate school, such as: managing data sets, statistical analysis, summarizing research findings, and editing research papers. Additional duties may be assigned.

In addition to working closely with faculty, research specialists participate in the vibrant academic life of Princeton University, including attending seminars and engaging with graduate students and other research assistants. We pay a competitive hourly wage.

This position is ideal for exceptional rising seniors or first-year master's students with a strong interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in Political Science or Economics after acquiring research experience.

The start and end date can vary to accommodate strong applicants and we are looking for someone who can work 30-35 hours per week.

Qualifications

Required:

* Pursuing a BA/BS degree (or BA/Bs in hand) in Economics, Mathematics, Data Science or Computer Science (or a Political Science BA with significant coursework in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, and/or programming).
* Excellent research and writing skills, programming skills, in particular STATA or R and LaTex editing. Knowledge of SQL, ArcGIS, Matlab, or Python is a plus, but not necessary.
