Job Description

The purpose of the Pharmacy Technician is to assist the Pharmacist with the day-to-day activities in the pharmacy, but not including the duties restricted to only a Pharmacist or Pharmacist Intern.


* High School Diploma or GED required.
* Strong background and/or education in health care.
* Good mathematical skills.
* Ability to speak Navajo or Spanish is desired.


* Must either be registered through the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy as a Non-certified Pharmacy Technician or have current national certification and NM license as a Pharmacy Technician.
* Must be registered or certified and licensed by date of hire.
* In both cases, must be under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist throughout employment.
* All technicians are required to obtain national Pharmacy Technician Certification within one year of registration as a Non-certified Pharmacy Technician from a NM Board-approved national body such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). In addition, must obtain a Pharmacy Technician License from the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy.
* After obtaining national certification and NM license, must maintain current throughout employment.


* According to PMS Human Resources Policy 205.006, "Healthcare Personnel Testing & Immunization Requirements," this position must comply with required testing and immunizations. Testing and immunizations including TB, Hepatitis B (consent or waiver), Tdap, MMR, and Varicella, will be available at the employee's PMS health center. Influenza vaccines will be required according to dates set by the CDC and NMDOH.
