The Accountant IV will use their extensive knowledge and experience to lead the team in advanced financial analysis. Premera's corporate finance department ensures the Company's financial information and reporting is accurate and complete. This expert professional has primary responsibility for determining appropriate accounting for the diverse business transactions for the operations of the Premera group of companies.

The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise and consultation for multi-company accounting functions for Premera Blue Cross and its subsidiaries, a $3 billion group of companies. This role will require highly specialized accounting knowledge, advanced analytical capabilities to solve complex problems and advanced technology skills to continuously improve accuracy, workload capacity and process efficiency. You will need to exhibit a commitment to our customers by demonstrating excellence, initiative, innovation, adaptability, and teamwork.

Job Responsibilities:

* Responsible for the monthly close processes by monitoring and auditing complex journal entries, reconciliations and variance analyses.
* Research and analyze complex business transactions, determine the appropriate accounting and procedures, and implement solutions.
* Analyze complex financial information, accounting processes and issues, prepare conclusions and recommendations to leadership, and implement solutions.
* Represent Finance as subject matter expert on cross-departmental projects.
* Take a lead role in engagement with external auditors on annual Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
* Guide the work of lower level accountants through training and mentorship.
* Take the lead to challenge convention and improve processes and/or gain efficiencies.
* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in finance or accounting
* A licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
* Five (5) years of accounting experience, including three (3) years of public accounting

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's in Business Administration (MBA)
* experience with PeopleSoft and/or reconciliation software
* Experience at a "Big 4" accounting firm and/or in the health insurance industry

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Advanced business acumen and understanding of the interconnectivity of the business.
* Proven leadership ability.
* Advanced knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
* Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
* Advanced understanding of applicable Finance policies.
* Advanced understanding of general accounting functions including General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), fixed assets, and payroll and account reconciliations.
* Team player with collaborative problem-solving skills including recommendation and implementation of improvements.
* Advanced analytical and research skills with attention to detail.
* Strong organizational skills to prioritize and meet deadlines.
* Advanced data management skills, Excel, SQL and SharePoint.
* Extensive experience working with complex systems to retrieve, analyze and synthesize data.
* Ability to complete assigned projects independently.
