Assistant Scientist - 2nd Shift Team - Bioanalytical Lab Operations - Immunochemistry

Location: Richmond, VA

Position: Full Time position with benefits (Mon-Fri, evening shift ~2:00pm- 10:30pm)

Great entry level scientist opportunity in the bioanalytical and clinical testing fields. New Grads Welcome.

As an Assistant Scientist on the Immunochemistry Sciences team, you would support bio-analytical testing in the laboratory with analytical testing techniques such as ELISA, Immunoassay, sample preparation and sample analysis, as well as performing assays, tests, documentation and reporting as needed.

The basic purpose of this position is to acquire the skills and training of sample preparation and analysis procedures and to perform simple sample preparation and analysis procedures to quantitatively measure pharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations. The Assistant Scientist is expected to follow analytical methods and SOP's with frequent direct supervision.

Education and Experience:

* B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or similar related lab/science field with no previous laboratory experience

Skills and Abilities:

* Training or experience with laboratory instruments, sample analysis or testing
* Training on pipetting, lab safety, and lab documentation.
* Manual dexterity
* Understanding of lab principles such as sample preparation, sample analysis, measuring, pipetting, aseptic technique
* Training or experience with analytical or bioanalytical testing techniques (ELISA, assays, bioanalytical testing or similar), sample preparation, sample analysis, mixing and measuring of chemicals, preparing reagents or solutions.
* Communicate effectively and follow detailed written and verbal instruction.
* Cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment or work alone with supervision
* Manage time effectively to complete assignments in expected time frame
* Maintain a laboratory notebook and complete all laboratory documentation in clear and accurate language and according to SOP

Working Conditions and Environment

* Work is performed in a laboratory and/or a clinical environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.
* Occasional drives to site locations, occasional domestic travel.
* Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.
* Rare exposure to skin and lung irritants, radiation, toxic materials and hazardous waste.
* Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments and gloves.
* Exposure to fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures on rare occasions.

Physical Requirements:

* Ability to work in an upright and /or stationary position for 6-8 hours per day.
* Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists to operate lab equipment.
* Occasional mobility needed.
* Occasional crouching, stooping, with frequent bending and twisting of upper body and neck.
* Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.
* Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
* Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
* Frequently interacts with others to obtain or relate information to diverse groups.
* Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Requires multiple periods of intense concentration.
* Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task.
