Job Description

Light Equipment Mechanic

Richmond Marine Terminal The Port of Virginia is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable light equipment mechanic to perform inspections and repairs on Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) specifically with Intermodal chassis at the Richmond Marine Terminal. The successful candidate will be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair ABS, electrical components, brakes, brake inspections, welding, changing tires, and annual periodic inspections and is knowledgeable of and has mastered the methods, procedures, tools, and equipment to perform inspections and repairs on CMVs.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Have one or more years' experience with CMV repairs that satisfies the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards Capable of performing duties by reason of experience, training, or both Show proof of experience and training by providing State approved certificates that qualifies one to perform brake service repairs and brake inspections. Must be able to read and comprehend the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Out of Service Criteria. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather. High School Diploma or equivalent Basic computer skills. Able to accomplish work with little supervision Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record. Ensures compliance with all security, safety and environmental regulations and policies within work area at all times. Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Intermodal Chassis maintenance and repair Have experience with other types of heavy equipment Possess or able to obtain certifications to operate a yard truck and forklift Selected applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment background check which may include any of the following Academic record and verification of education and/or certifications Employment history (including references) Criminal history Driving record Fingerprinting Drug and alcohol testing, Fit for Duty Physical Other records or information related to the candidate's suitability for the position. Selected applicant must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card).
