Description

The San Diego Unified Port District ("District") is seeking a Deputy General Counsel V to work on cutting edge, high profile and complex commercial real estate and land use matters for the District.

Education, Training and Experience:

Graduation with a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, including but not limited to litigation, environmental law, land use, municipal law, real estate law, and employment and labor law.

Time served as a District Intern counts towards the years of experience.

Education, Training and Experience:

Graduation with a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, preferably in a governmental setting and/or in the practice of specialized areas of the law such as employment and environmental law.

Time served as a District Intern counts towards the years of experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

Current membership in good standing in the State Bar of California and admission to practice before State of California and federal courts.

A current, valid California Class C driver's license at time of appointment and maintained at all times thereafter in order to operate a vehicle on District business.

California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice System: An incumbent in this position will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Notice Program. The pull notice program provides information on the incumbent's driving record and Driver License status on a periodic basis to the San Diego Unified Port District. An employee assigned a District vehicle must acknowledge receipt and understanding of District Administrative Procedures covering the use of District vehicles.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:

Excellent academic credentials.

At least five (5) years of progressively increasing responsibility managing complex real estate and land use transactions from inception to completion.

Experience should include drafting ground and commercial leases, as well as all lease related documents, permits, licenses, easements, and other transactional documents.

Experience negotiating real estate transactions, including ground, commercial and/or industrial leases; engaging in arbitration and mediation regarding rent reviews and other lease disputes.

Experience in real estate finance with projects in the Coastal Zone, including permitting and plan amendments

Experience with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Engagement in arbitration and mediation regarding rent reviews and other lease disputes; and interpreting and enforcing lease provisions.

Experience representing lessors and litigating real estate and land use transactions (including the above-described transactions) is beneficial but not required.

Must be an excellent communicator in both written and oral presentations.

High customer/stakeholder-oriented focus toward achieving the District's strategic objectives, mission and vision.
