About Pocono Medical Center
Pocono Medical Center is an accredited organization by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the national organization responsible for rigorous review of hospital procedures and policies. PMC provides high quality, state-of-the-art acute medical care and is committed to patient satisfaction, education and promotion of wellness. PMC's strategic vision is to continue to develop as a community-centered, patient-focused healthcare system that enables businesses, residents, and visitors to access a full continuum of services. As a community hospital, PMC is committed to serving its community members, reaching throughout Monroe County, and as well as portions of Pike and Northampton Counties in Pennsylvania, and Northwestern New Jersey. A functional definition of a community hospital is one defined as "an institution whose purpose is to provide personal healthcare in a manner which uses the available resources most effectively for the community's benefit." (from "The Well Managed Community Hospital" by John R. Griffith). This means that the community members, as beneficiaries of the hospital's services, become owners of the institution.
