JOB DESCRIPTION

Personnel in this job title may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training. Annual cyber security training is also required.

SUMMARY:

Under supervision, performs assignments designed to develop engineering work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard techniques, practices and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides engineering support for projects

Conducts or participates in studies where project management, performance, cost, and scheduling are the key factors of evaluation

Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations and evaluations

Provides technical support to and interacts with other associates

Uses the Company and industry standards to ensure safety and consistency of engineering results

Provides technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and Company personnel

COMPETENCIES:

Ability to read, interpret and apply national, state and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, etc.)

Ability to translate electrical theory and physics to utility application for improving system reliability

Knowledge and proven ability to apply engineering principles, practices and regulations to, and perform economic and decision analysis studies of issues in areas including, but not limited to, generation, transmission, distribution, system planning, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations as they relate to an electric utility.

Knowledge of project management, work management, and cost estimating principles

Ability to make informed repair decisions following company protocols

Comfortable working in and around high voltage (up to 345kV) electrical facilities and equipment

Ability to forecast budgets

Demonstrated leadership skills, self-motivation, and interpersonal skills

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors Degree in engineering from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) and one to seven years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

Project Management Professional (PMP) or Six Sigma certification are strongly desired.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, write speeches, and presentations

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, and managers of the organization

COMPUTER SKILLS:

In-depth knowledge of personal computers including demonstrated proficiency with electrical engineering design programs, such as Autocad

Working knowledge of operating systems, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with complex problems involving several concrete variables in complicated situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires periods of frequent sitting, standing, walking, and exposure to outside elements, lifting (50 pounds or under), crouching, bending, climbing and working at various heights.

Protective equipment required: Hard-hat, safety glasses and hearing protection.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Time will be divided between office and field, with a majority of time in the office. Work will be around high voltage electricity, computers, office equipment, and construction equipment.

SALARY RANGE

Engineer I Salary Grade: P11
$44,133.00 - $73,554.00

Engineer II Salary Grade: P12
$50,297.00 - $83,828.00

Engineer III Salary Grade: P13
$57,842.00 - $96,403.00

Engineer IV Salary Grade: P14
$66,660.00 - $111,100.00
