Job Description

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:

The Accounting Intern will assist our Finance office with additional support for projects that are currently not being performed; and in doing so; we offer a rewarding experience that may be used to fulfill the interns needed education requirements, resume enhancement, and to spawn homeless and nonprofit awareness in other areas of the world.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

REQUIRED:

* Some College, with an accounting major in a bachelors or a masters degree program

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

* Minimum of six (6) months basic accounting experience or internship
* Experience working in a professional office environment
* Experience working with multiple colleagues on projects or jointly-owned responsibilities
* Interest working in a social services, mission-driven, non-profit organization

PHYSICAL ABILITIES/SKILLS:

REQUIRED:

* Heavy use of computer
* Ability to sit for long periods of time

MENTAL ABILITIES/SKILLS:

REQUIRED:

* Strong organizational skills
* Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
* Ability to meet deadlines
* Ability to work with detailed data and schedules
* Ability to work independently
* Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
* Strong computer skills with ability to use Excel proficiently
* Communication skills to work effectively with department colleagues and other departments

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

* Open and sort mails
* Invoices sorting, scanning, disseminating and electronic filing
* Scan all prior invoices and save electronically
* Log all utility bills in MIP
* Package AP checks / mail
* Procure signatures for checks greater or equal to $10,000.00
* Set up new vendors in MIP
* Update capital projects binder
* Prepare Oniel Invoices

Assist with Audit procedures:

* Scan all new leases
* Scan all new loans
* Scan cover page of all insurance policies
* Scan contracts for SEFA schedule and CDFA numbers
* Pulling requested AP invoices for AAF
* Filing returned AP invoices for AAF
* Assist with filling out confirms
* Organize and catalog vehicle titles
* Organize and set up files for current leases for rentals, buildings, equipment, etc.
* Scan to FinanceShare all documents that need to be archived at the Warehouse for security issues
* Review Eversource bills for consolidation scattered housing
* Analysis monthly utilities for variances and savings




* Research any CDFA missing numbers prior to audit

Pine Street has offered job training and job readiness programs to homeless men and women since 1990. These programs provide participants with the skills needed to succeed in the journey back to employment. Guests participating in these programs gain both specific job skills as well as skills needed for success, such as budgeting and time management. The inn's courses teach students the importance of punctuality and attendance, effective communication, following directions and procedures, neat personal appearance, problem solving and teamwork. Pine Street provides separate living quarters for its job trainees, who work closely with counselors to stay substance-free, secure employment, and obtain permanent affordable housing.
