Description

Penn State's Sustainability Institute is looking to hire a Penn State student intern who will work from May 2019 to May 2020, assisting with the Institute's community and alumni engagement initiatives. Specifically, the intern will assist with: Creation of a new database of Penn State alumni working and interested in sustainability; Planning and implementing Sustainability alumni networking events; Planning a monthly sustainability-themed film series and related events; Planning a year-long Penn State systemwide initiative leading up to Earth Day 2020, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Duties may include, but are not limited to: using LinkedIn and other social media networks to create an alumni database; researching and booking potential films for the film series; creating invitations and programming materials for networking events; helping with a wide array of planning logistics of community and alumni events; writing and designing promotional materials for events; tracking participation in events; and networking with campus and community partners in preparation for events. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated proficiency in event management and graphic design. The successful candidate will be: A team player, with a GPA above 3.0, and superb written, interpersonal and oral communication and relational skills; A quick learner, who can manage and organize multiple sources of information, to meet deadlines and to enjoy a variably-paced work environment; Detail oriented, with an empathetic understanding of what event attendees need/expect when participating in events; Proactive and able to work independently, ready to take the initiative and anticipate and adapt to potential developments as they arise; Interested in sustainability and in fostering a welcoming and engaging connections around sustainability, both across campus and between Penn State and our surrounding communities. Interest in films/the arts/storytelling is a big plus. This paid internship will be for up to 35 hours per week during the summer and up to 15 hours weekly during the academic year. Our offices are in the Land and Water Research Building near the outdoor track, although some of the work will be able to be done remotely.
