The Penn State Extension Office of Allegheny County is looking for a summer intern interested in 4-H Youth Development. Unlike internships at other organizations, our 4-H Urban Agriculture Intern will gain meaningful, real-world experience in the key areas that the most astute urban agriculture practitioners demonstrate competency, in research, planning, implementation and evaluation. You can expect to develop confidence and marketable skills by engaging in or assisting with many of the following activities: community engagement; grant implementation and evaluation. The Intern will need to be an independent worker who is good at time management and creative in working with youth. By working with the 4-H Educator, the Intern will become familiar with the goals of 4-H; develop civic engagement, leadership, responsibility and life skills of youth through an experiential learning program using a positive youth development approach. The intern will be on the ground learning new innovative approaches to urban 4-H. The 4-H Urban Agriculture Intern will be working on the "Stewardship in Urban Agriculture" (SUA) program. This is a three-tier program working closely with the Pittsburgh Urban Christian School located in Pittsburgh to develop a sustainable urban garden. SUA second tier will allow students to study, design, and own their learning experience. SUA third and final tier will give real-life service-learning in the middle school curriculum. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
