Job Description

Title: District Technology Assistant

Classification: Classified

Directly Responsible To: Superintendent/Principal

Basic functions:

Under direct supervision of the Superintendent/Principal, performs various tasks related to the operation of a school site computer lab, and maintenance of computers, equipment and software district-wide.

Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

1) Maintain computer lab.

a. Organize and maintain software inventory and computer equipment.

b. Take security measures to guard against theft.

c. Recommend appropriate purchase of hardware, software, and supplies.

d. Keep lab organized and attractive.

2) Support the certificated staff in technology education.

a. Facilitate computer lab sign-up process, posting up-to-date schedule as needed.

b. Provide orientation to students on computer lab rules and conduct.

c. Assist in the management of students in the computer lab.

d. Assist teachers in monitoring student progress and assist as needed.

e. Maintain a positive learning environment.

f. Assist teachers requesting instruction in computer use.

g. Provide information to staff on software materials available to support curriculum.

3) Troubleshoot equipment district-wide and make arrangements for service and repair as necessary.

4) Maintain communication and work cooperatively with teachers, the administration, the Technology Committee, parents, and all school-connected groups and individuals as necessary to provide high quality service to the students.

Requirements

1. Completion of high school education or general education degree (GED).

2. Understanding of computer operations in both hardware and operating system software.
Primary focus should be with Apple computers with a working understanding of PC’s.

3. A working understanding of all application programs used in the district.

4. A working understanding of computer networks and distributed systems.

5. Classroom experience highly desirable.

6. Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, and parents.

The employee may occasionally work with potentially toxic chemicals such as printer/copy toner, liquid correction fluid and cleaning sprays. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
