PeaceHealth is seeking a Variance Report Specialist - Quality & Improvement for a 1.0 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of 8 Hours.

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the day-to-day administration of PeaceHealth’s variance reporting system (RL Solutions) for an Integrated Network of Care, as well as providing support for the Variance Reporting department in accordance with accepted processes and procedures to ensure smooth and efficient operation.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.  Provides daily review and triage of electronic variance reports (EVRs) and analyzes same for potential safety events, patient grievances, quality improvement needs, and compliments.
2.  Collaborates with Patient Safety Consultants and Officers in identifying potential Serious Safety Events. Supports the work of the Community Patient Safety Teams with EVRs and data.
3.  Collaborates to assure appropriate distribution of electronic variance reports. Monitors EVRs for completeness, follow-up by appropriate responders, and timely closure.
4.  Partners with managers and system resource consultants to develop ad hoc reports as requested and provide local report training and support.
5.  Maintains data, develops, documents and generates reports, maximizes system capabilities for tracking and reporting on information.
6.  Provides and helps analyze reports from system information to identify trends and promote process improvements through collaboration with key stakeholders. 
7.  Assists with data collection/response to investigations by external agencies in alignment with Quality Improvement and Peer Review protections.
8.  Acts as resource to caregivers and leadership with regard to identification and mitigation of risks to the organization within scope of responsibility.  Provides education/training to caregivers to enhance the identification of risk and risk mitigation throughout the organization.
9.  Handles highly confidential information patient concerns and incident reporting information in a manner that protects patient’s confidentiality/privacy and hospital’s privacy.
10.  Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS  Required unless otherwise stated

EDUCATION: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Nursing, Business or Computer Science required or a combination of education and experience that provides the caregiver with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: 
 Minimum of two years general experience in healthcare preferred.
 Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) and/or analytic software applications highly desired.
 Previous related experience requiring use of analytical skills preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 
 Strong verbal and written communication skills
 Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
 Ability to discern the need for special dissemination of complex and/or confidential information
 Ability to work independently, prioritize and make decision without supervision regarding routine matters while efficiently forwarding priority issues for action/response, written or verbal instructions
 Proven ability to develop, analyze, interpret data and develop reports
